You can't expect guys not to have physical or mental break downs in a 162 or 82 game season when you are playing every day or every other. They are human but it doesn't take away the object of the game or the fact that both teams don't go out there without wanting to win.
I agree with you here and hopefully you can agree with what I just said aswell....

Well no, i don't agree. Did you read my post? That's why i posted what i did. Going all out 16 times a year is much easier than 162.

I totally agree and that is why I dont like to bet on MLB and NBA as much as football even with the reason why they cant provide their full effort being stated....obviously nobody likes to lose and I agree with that too but at least when you got the effort level there you know thats something you can rely on out of many other hopes after your wager has been placed....

Hey, just like football ... There is a winning wager and losing wager built in to every game. When it comes to that, they are no different!

I don't know Wayne, not that I agree with anything that silly Canadian Chado said, I think the physical/mental stuff of a long season doesn't have much to do with it. I think it is simply this:

            MLB/NBA - Guaranteed Contracts
NFL - Only partial guaranteed money through signing bonus

An NFL player MUST exert maximum effort, else lse their livlihood, whereas jackass Mike Mussina or Stephon Marbury could care less, because they are going to get paid regardless.

Now that being said, I also agree with your point about the OF though, but that is based on the sports dynamic. It may not look like they are giving "their all", but in fact if Beckett is striking out 12 out of 21 players there isn't much for Manny to do but twirl his hair. In the NBA, the league has become alot more of a isolation game therefore how much "effort" must the 4 other guys on the floor exert backing away from the basket as Eddie Curry tries for the 20th time to back a guy down to the paint unsuccessfully.

It visually also looks like the NFL players are exerting themselves every play because on the line it is like getting in a car wreck at 45 MPH 100 + times a game. But if you pay attention say to Terrel Owens (probably not the best choice) there are plays where receivers or RB job through a pattern because they are not play side.

            Just some thoughts
