4180 V open Delta wire ups at a Chemical Plant......900A fuses, at $2200.00 a pop, have been blowing..........4160 from their switchgear to a 1200 AMP W'hse Porce LIne Air Circuit Breaker....3 of em....feeds the mains.....Been having a lots of spiking, tornadoes, lightning, and it's kinda hard to find the source, when it's pouring down rain, and you're standing (not supposed to be), in the switchyard, trying to cipher, and read meters........It's a process of elimination at this point.....
And yes, we have a good ground, lightning arrestors, GF protection system.........I suspect one of the 200 HP motors, is encountering potential rotor lock problems.......Surging, peaking, overloading.......Weather is not raining now, so we can bump, do some reading, and take it from there....
Co has a real good Safety Man, and he wouldn't let us try and do anything in the pouring down rain....Rightfull so......Still plenty of H2O around in the yard though...One of the Motors had a slight clicking sound to it, I think shaft starting to try and lock up.....We'll know today......Shifted from the suspect motor at 4:00 this AM, made a phone call, and thus far no tripping or fuse blowing......We might have honed in on it.....kapt
