I can watch a sunrise off the Atlantic in the morning, drive an hour and watch it set on Gulf.

    • oh and did i mention that the highways and road system here in upstate NY fuckin blows ass. we have all this development and ppl moving out of albany and into the burbs but yet no highways or even 4 lane roads are built. traffic is horrid around here. its goten so pathetic and so bad that they are installing "round abouts" aka circles to ease traffic. piss poor planning around here. build 5,000 homes yet leave it a 2 lane road. with red lights....yeah dont get me started. i'm so glad i live in FBNY country living is great

When we drove through the Syracuse, Albany and Buffalo areas driving to Cleveland, we thought we were in Montana or something. It was a very quiet and very boring drive. Lots of farmland and alot of other areas seemingly left for nature for miles on end. I felt like i was in the middle of nowhere up there and that's coming from a guy from Maine. Boy, it was very much "Country Living" from what we saw. There wasn't alot to view while driving except for mile after mile of grapes! LOL

It's really not the problem you make it out to be for all and it beats shitting my pants while boarding up my windows or sitting in a traffic jam for 5 hours trying to get out of town.
Your population may be smarter. though. I'll give you that.

I'm originally from Queens and would rather live here but vacation in NY.
The hurricane season is really much like your blizzards as far as preparation goes(imo). Except we get much more of a notice. The hurricane season has only recently been active. Knock on wood, I didn't have to put the shutters up at all this year. Which only takes 30 minutes tops to put up. I can remember many years not ever having to put them up at all.

No way could I afford to live up north.

All i know is i've never seen anyone up here lose their home to a blizzard. It just doesn't happen. On the other hand, i've seen cities destroyed with ZERO notice in just the last 2 weeks down south. When i go to sleep, i don't worry about sirens going off or my house falling on me because of a blizzard.

its really nice here, but the fact is traffic and suburban sprawl w/o creating the necessary roadways make living here bad. for example i grew up in colonie ny. its main road is called central ave. its route 5 and it runs from downtown albany to downtown schenectady. the cities are 10miles apart. in the past 10-15 yrs so many homes and developments have been built off central ave traffic durning daytime is nearly dead stopped. and rush hour forget about it. its a 4 lane road and they have no plans to make it any wider. that is just one example.

the interstate highways are fine. but again in albany we have I-90, i-87, i787,i890 and thats about it. not nearly enough big roadways to get ppl to and from downtown albany. quite frankly it sucks

It's a nice place to visit but i wouldn't want to live there. My Fiance's parents own a place down there and they go down every year usually between October and March. They like it but the stress brought sometimes from trying to reach them every time tornado's touch down or hurricanes hit isn't always worth it. I've never had to board my house up or move sand bags. I can imagine having to do that. Their friggin' neighbor lost their dog a few months ago to a gator. The thing got out of the house and sure enough, they went down back near the water just in time to watch it happen. I seriously was like WTF???

They also woke up one night and when her mother was going to the bathroom she noticed a snake wrapped around the bottom of the toilet that was about 4 feet long. She was half asleep and almost had a heart attack. They also have boarded their windows up about 4 times in the last 2 years and i swear, they never seem to have a peaceful month there but when you get to that age, alot of people's bodies do not like the cold.

No hurricanes here, especially when they come to play in the pizza box

We were on a 4 lane highway going by all the Albany and Syracuse exits. It just seemed very quiet with little traffic with both our ride there and back. It looked like a very peaceful area. Do you know what grapes i'm talking about? They may have been just into Pa. but i thought it was N.Y.

Those are areas we would look at moving to if we ever did. Somewhere between Maine and Florida where the hurricanes are not a problem and tornado's are very rare. A little snow here and there is no big deal and 40's-50's are perfect for me in the winter!

only thing i know about grapes in NY is in the finger lake region of NY. that is famous for wine. best wine in the east comes outta finger lakes region of ny. that is in western ny. south of crapchester. if you were traveling on the thruway west to buff you'd see signs for wine tours and stuff like that. if thats what your talkin about then yes i know about those grapes otherwise it might have been some place in PA which i'd have no clue

No, it was grapes. lol. Miles and miles of them on both sides of the road. It must have been just into PA.

When we went through the toll booth i asked and we were told most were grown and used by "Welch's" for drinks.
