Wayne....I had a leak in my kitchen faucet that drained water onto my carpets in one of the rooms in my house. I used a carpet cleaner to suck up the water. It was still wet though and within two days my entire house smelled like mold.
There's little chance of getting all that water soaked up that's in the pads.
My advice, and this is what I did, is to lift that carpet up immediately. Throw out the pad and let the carpet dry on it's own. I actually cut the carpet out and laid it on my driveway for a day. It dried and it's all good now.
The new pad cost $100 to have some guy come in and lay it and put the carpet back. Not bad when I was told by rug people that it was going to cost $700 to clean and dry it. Or to replace the carpet which would have been near $1000.
Water can mold quickly....two days and the smell stays for good....Good luck!
