it would be hip replacement surgury. we havent gone to the consoltation with the surgueon yet. from what i know now is he basically needs this if we want him to lead a pain free life. aparently he is in alot of pain and has been walking funny to ease his pain. we noticed his odd walking but never thought anything of it because he is always happy and playful and full of energy.
so basically if we do nothing eventually over time, couple years or so, his hip socket will break apart and he will lose mobility in his back left leg. i really dont know much yet as all this is painfully new to me.2013 NCAA POD Record

Sorry to hear about Guiness.
I had a dog (RotW) eventually had to have both hips replaced. I have to tell you it worked our fine for him. It's tough on the family for awhile, but like you said it's like a kid and the extra time and care you give is just part of being a parent.
I am confident that whatever you decide WILL be the right choice....
You also might want to ask the doc about things like Ester-C. It's a C vitamin that the vet that worked on my dog recommended HIGHLY. That was about 11 years ago but I think it helped bunches with the recovery and back then also read that it may help keep the healthy hip....healthy.
My dog's displasia had already set in both hips prior.Remember the three R's:
Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.
