It's funny you mention this. After I left Vegas I heard the same thing. In particular I heard that Gus Hansen is really broke. Hansen, pictured below, has won several million dollars from the WPT winnings. Guys like Chip Reese are "backing" some of these players to get them back in the game.
Right after I left the poker room at Wynn, Hansen walked in to play $5/$10 NL. He bought in for $1,000. He is slowly trying to build back up.
High Limit Cash games are eating these guys up, not tournaments. Guys like Brunson, Ivey, Lederer, and Reese are eating these guys up in Limit games, blinds are usually 50K/100K and up.

Jimmy, I didn't know that guy by name but i know him by his picture. I heard the big guys like Ivey are still doing well. What i don't understand is how these guys get millions and don't put some into smart investments or play smaller after that. I know they always want more but if you have millions you can move somewhere nice and retire. Playing 50-100K blinds is SICK. I can't even imagine putting that up as a BLIND! It's easy to see how these guys can blow a Million dollars but i didn't realize they could lose it in one night! ... WOW!Comment
