no need to explain, that race was brutal and the ending was down right embarrassing.

They have rules. When there is a green white checkered finish, they make 1 attempt to end the race under green. They don't race back to the line anymore like they used to. So when the caution came out, the field was automatically frozen in place. They then go back and determine where every car is by this electronic scoring mechanism.

Setting The Record Straight

Guys, for all of you that were wondering WTF happend yesterday at daytona. I'll do my best to explain everything now. Here is how it works:

We all know jimmy johnson won. But let me tell you how the rest of the order pan'd out. Daytona 500= Superbowl of nascar. Ok we got that. Keep that in mind. if/when at the end of the race you have a caution you must revert to this special formula to determine the order of finish after top 3 place. Ok here it goes. Because the daytona 500 is the superbowl and the superbowl is at the end of the year and the 500 is at the beginning of the year, nascar is backwards. Now stay with me, this is where it gets alittle tricky. So if a caution comes out at the end of the race you determine the order of finish in reverse. So if you came in 4th you actually came in last, 5th means you come in 2nd to last and so on and so on. This is done to make the ending more interesting. it happens rarely because its only when a caution ends the race. But it all comes down to the event being backwards so thats how they determine the order of finish as well. You have to be consistent across the board. Hope this helps
