May 19 Oakland Athletics SP Rich Harden (shoulder) has been shut down for the weekend, according to the Associated Press. KFFL
May 19 Harden, who has been dogged by injury problems throughout his career, is on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. He didn't play catch at all while the A's were on a road trip through Boston, Tampa Bay and Kansas City from May 1-10, and after a few days of long toss in the outfield upon the team's return, he was told to shut it down.
Advice: Harden is part of a lengthy injury list for the A's, who are currently without starter Esteban Loaiza, relievers Huston Street and Justin Duchsherer, DH Mike Piazza and outfielders Chris Snelling, Mark Kotsay and Bobby Kielty.2013 NCAA POD Record

Manager Bob Geren said it's possible Rich Harden (shoulder) could head to extended spring training to continue his recovery depending on how he feels in the next day or two.

update on this loser with his minor injury......
-- Harden went home to British Columbia to get treatment for his shoulder impingement from his chiropractor, Jamie Grimes, and the right-hander was feeling good enough Monday to make 40 throws from about 90 feet. That felt good, too, Harden said. If he continues to progress and moves out his long toss, there's a chance he could be throwing off the mound or at least the front part of the mound toward the end of the homestand.2013 NCAA POD Record

When Rich Harden returns from his strained pitching shoulder, he could be on his way to the bullpen. Manager Bob Geren said that Harden could initially be used out of the 'pen upon his return, and it's possible the oft-injured hurler could stay there. "It's just been talked about, but we would like to get him back in a game as soon as possible," Geren told the Mercury News. "We could leave him there or build him up through relief." Geren added that if everything goes according to plan, Harden could return for the series against the Cardinals that begins on June 15.

Rich Harden will throw off flat ground today, and barring any setbacks, he'll throw halfway up the mound on Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. It's still possible that Harden could return for the series against the Cardinals that begins on June 15, and the A's may start him out in relief before inserting him back into the rotation.
