Each situation is different-for me what is noteworthy is that SA did the same thing before and Popovich actually flew home with players.
Stern let the matter go and did nothing.
If he had made a rule at that time, I would feel differently.
In short, the fact that Stern didn't at the time of the first incident do anything but did here (which imo had to do with the fact that big tv money was involved this time)with the fine, makes it an incorrect decision based on precedent.
Obviously if a clear rule was in effect, Popovich would not have done what he did-its that simple.

As much as i hate stern and everything about him, the League has grown and flourished under his reign!

savage, it's like life. Things are always evolving and at some point, people take a stand or make changes. Stern had enough i guess.

Right on Savage...and yeah that's great Wayne. I am unfortunately part of the minority that would like to see defense played, trades not vetoed by the commish (though I don't know all the details on that one), and coaches allowed to coach. I will give him the flop rule, that's the one decision I did like. How my Spurs are still prevailing with that rule now in place is beyond me :D

Here is an article which presents both sides of the issue in a fair manner.
It is everyone's right to feel as they do:

            Associated Press

savage, I said earlier that i can easily see both sides. I also have said time and place. Pop knows how the league feels about those big spotlight games and out of that whole road trip, he chose that one to do it. Wrong place and time imo

I certainly respect your opinion on this Wayne as I do everyone else even though we obviously see it differently.

When you have a playoff type atmosphere and the whole nba world has the spotlight on you and the place is buzzing, fans are excited and the League is hoping for a great show. Then one coach decides to put all his stars on a plane and fly them away. Not only do they not play, you can't even see them on the bench. That is an absolute EMBARRASSMENT to the league. It may be great for the Spurs but that is an embarrassment for the NBA and all who were expecting a great show. You can't tell me Pop didn't know that. No way in hell i believe he didn't.

I don't think it would have been embarassing for the league at all had Stern not done all this garbage

Oh i do. First thing i heard on 3 different radio sports talk shows today was how the Spurs benched everybody last night and how disappointing it was to all who were excited to watch.

I got home yesterday and planned on watching 2 things. Spurs/Heat and Saints/Falcons. I check the NBA lines and see Heat -12 and i'm like huh, either the sportsbook made a mistake or something is going on. I investigate and see all the guys sitting and my one and only thought is "WTF, are you kidding me? Why??"

I moved on and watched football all night. I had the nba scoreboard up on the computer but even when i saw it was close late, i never watched a minute of the game. Didn't care, didn't want to, couldn't care less who won. I was pissed that they ruined the game for me. I thought it was going to be a great one. Maybe i am the only one in the Country who didn't care after seeing that. I don't know but they ruined it for me and i'm sure many, many others.
