The only sure thing is that unless the amount is in the thousands, in the long run(which is all that matters), it isn't going to make any difference to his financial well being or for that matter yours whether you tell him about it or not.
To tell you the truth, if I was still using a Local(I have been using Offshores exclusively for 10 years), and your situation faced me, it would depend on the situation.
If I had lost a lot of money to him over a period of time, I probably wouldn't say anything-if I had won a lot, I probably would.
If I was somewhere in between I would have to think about it.
This situation is just a bit different that say finding someone's wallet with identification insde and deciding whether to return it or keep the money-that is a no brainer.
