Of course there are professional gamblers out there that make a living gambling. However, the number of them is small. It would take years and years to learn how to become one. And that's if you were able to take a beating in the money for the mean time.

I wouldnt ever do it. I have 2 buddies that play poker for a living. One is an online mega grinder. He simply plays 24 tables at a time and tries to break even because the points systems now make it a lucrative living. He makes about 80,000 a year but it's not fun. The other is a tourney pro who plays a lot of big online tourneys and he does pretty well. AGain...not my idea of fun. I like betting sports. I think winning is not the world's most difficult task HOWEVER...trying to take the books for a livable income? Not my idea of fun

I haven't tried to bet my full time job in sports. All you need to do is money management.

i can tell you this from years of working with people with addictions, treat gambling with a lot of respect,it can turn in to just as bad a problem as a cocaine addiction,i gamble strictly for amusement now,i am trying to win everytime i suit up,but i have a seperate bankroll i gamble out of and i never wager the rent money !! ps-if you do fiind out you are good enough to make a living at it,stick to what you do best,i have lots of friends who are great poker players yet they will blow their money gambling on something stupid-most of them are not truly happy people-JUST MY RANDOM THOUGHTS-THE IRONMAN !!!!
DON'T YOU EAT THE YELLOW SNOW !! PS-MARVIN LOVES SPLIT SALAD !!

I would love to quit and gamble professionally. I believe I am a very good poker player and pretty decent horse player. I win at poker about 80% of the time. Unfortunatly I lack discipline and when I lose that 20% it's for more than what I have won.

Horses is different also. I try for a big score rather than be disciplined enough to wps bet selected races and nickel and dime it

bottom line. Need lots of discpline and money managment which I have none
also. I would need to quit drinking

                    good luck to you
                    Good Luck to everyone
                    Adam

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
                    Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

Been gambling since I was 16 years old. I am now 55. When I was in my late 20s a friend and I moved to Vegas with the bright idea that we could both make a living by doing nothing more than gambling. Went out with a $10,000 stake at the beginning of the football season. Did O.K (meaning I could pay my half of the rent and eat daily) through football but got completely wiped out by the end of the basketball season and returned to Maryland with my tail between my legs.. I know there are people who claim they make a living gambling put I have never met anyone who was successful long term. For the last 25 years I gamble for pleasure. If I win a few thousand great, I buy my wife something nice with the winnings. If I lose, no big deal because I only gamble with money I can afford to lose. Trust me it's a very tough way to make a living. These guys who you see on the poker broadcasts (Negranu, Brunson, Ferguson, etc.) who cashed in big time on the poker craze are the exception, not the rule.

As one who has gambled on sports for around 40 years(I am 65going on 66), I sure as hell know that I couldn't have retired betting sports(I have been retired for almost 7 years now but not because of revenues derived from gambling).
I think that there are a select few out there who gamble on sports(I am not including Blackjack, Poker and other card playing in the Casino) and who are successful enough at it so that they don't have to work.
That being said, I would venture to say that out of these few folks, most don't bet every day, they are very disciplined and just make substantial bets when their handicapping methods and/or information they receive put the odds substantially in their favor.
I myself bet just about every day but very small relative to what I could if I really wanted to for obvious reasons.
I get my highs when I win and lows when I lose like just about everyone else, but I gamble primarily for fun and entertainment value and not to supplemement my income.
If someone can bet every day and is able to show verified profit over a number of years which is all that counts, more power to him-I would love to get and bet on his picks and his picks alone; at that time perhaps I might treat it as more than recreational.
Anyways, good luck to anyone who tries this venture.

If I read you right Orange, yeah when I was in my 20's, there was notinternet let alone Offshores-I had no choice but to bet with the scummy locals who were in my area.
Actually I didn't start using a Offshore until around 9-10 years ago and have lived happily ever since.
