I agree JC.
I coach and umpire baseball and have worked from the college level on down.
I am not condoning what Joyce did but I promise you, no one feels worse than he does right now. I know some want him fired, shot, hung, etc., but he is human and we all make mistakes.
Again, I agree he fucked up big time in a big time spot and that is what makes it worse. But, as an explayer, coach and umpire, I know Joyce genuinely cares about the game and what happened and while I feel VERY bad for Gallaraga, I also feel for Joyce because he will carry this on his back for the rest of his career and life. He flat out blew the call and he will never get that back.
Gallaraga might never be in that position again and that sucks big time for him. And Joyce will never live this down. I feel bad for both.jc Wishes He Can Get A Goat

If this play had happened in say the third inning rather than with two out in the ninth, folks would still be up in arms but not as much-in short, the timing of the call is what makes the call so disturbing.Last edited by savage1; 06-03-2010, 02:03 AM.

Geeze, relax, it's a fucking baseball game, in the grand scheme of things who gives a fuck about some overpaid athlete not getting his name in a record book.
I guarantee you that ump will pay dearly, probably will wish he was fired, so there all of you guys who HAVE never made a mistake can be happyQuestions, comments, complaints:

I feel sorry for the umpire. I have umpired many baseball games and have made a few bad calls. Nobody feels worse than this guy who blew the call. He will have to live with this for ther rest of his life and always be known as the guy who missed a big call....regardless of how his career as an umpire progresses. Yes, I agree that the umpires should have huddled and talked about it...but I think they might have been in shock also. If you check out the replay in slow motion you can catch Jake Westbrook in the Cleveland dugout and his reaction to the call...priceless

I have been watching baseball for 45 years and I don't recall ever seeing a pitcher lose a perfect game by an umpire blowing the call on the 27th out. This in unprecedented. If Bud Selig had any hairs on his nutsack he would reverse the call and declare it a perfect game, which it was. The fact is Galarraga DID pitch a perfect game. Joyce's fucked up call shouldn't change it. JMO

I do not like video replay ... But I think they should have it like they do in FB ... You can request 2 video reviews per game ... or something like that ...
Times have really changed and baseball really should go with the changes ... awful call ... I feel something needs to be done ... and to say "screw it, the ump is only human, is not right ...
