And how can you guys keep saying to trade Hamels, that would be great if you could do it but he stinks and his arm and head are shot.

You guys are starting to sound like Met fans when they want to trade Murphy ,Castillo and Pelphrey for Brandon Phillips and Edinson Volquez.

According to a source who spoke with two teams involved in the trade, Toronto would get highly regarded Mariners pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont, Phillies catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud and another Phillies prospect in exchange for Halladay. Indications are that the Phillies have balked at Toronto's repeated requests for outfielder Domonic Brown, and the Phillies are offering highly touted outfielder Michael Taylor instead.

My pt was they can't extend both based on current salary structure.

Halladay 3 years 70 million, Lackey 5 years 82 million and phils say they could not have signed both Lee and Halladay

I think it's 3 years 60 for Halladay. I'd rather have him than Lee, but man Lee was good of them. Like I said, great trade for Seattle. With no ace pitchers available they swing a trade for one. Lee and The King and pray that it's raining.

The Angels losing Lackey, Vlad and Figgins. They'll need to sign someone besides Matsui.

Isn't that about half of Sabathia's deal? I'd rather have Halladay any day.

Yea. Now is the time to lock in superstars with this economy.

Sabathia has a contract that averages out to 23 mil a year for 7 years. He got a little over 15 mil this past year.

He is 3 years younger than Halladay thats why they gave him same money for 3 years and Yanks get Sabathia for 6 more.

ESPN.com's Jayson Stark has learned that catching prospect Travis D'Arnaud is also headed to Toronto in Monday's reported three-team trade.
Here's what we've learned so far: The Phillies will get Roy Halladay from the Blue Jays and will hand him a three-year, $60 million contract extension; The Blue Jays, in turn, will get D'Arnaud and outfielder Michael Taylor from the Phillies, and 20-year-old right-handed pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont from the Mariners; Seattle will wind up with Cliff Lee from the Phillies. This thing might not get sorted out until Tuesday or Wednesday, and we'll be sure to keep up with the details as they stream in. Stay tuned.

So the Mariners traded Aumont for Lee, if they sign him to extension, I think that's a good trade for them. Toronto gets 3 decent prospects, I guess that's the best they could do. Phillies give up D'Arnaud who's nothing IMO and Taylor isn't anything special either, but also Lee. I think Toronto could've gotten more, that's my take. Good trade for the Phillies and Mariners. I would've thought the Dodgers would've given up more.

If the trade goes down like that, my opinions:

                          1) I don't like giving up Taylor...he has "stud" potential.

                          2) I don't get this trade from Seattle's perspective. They give up 3 prospects for 1 year of Cliff Lee? The reason the Phillies are supposedly doing this is because Lee turned down a contract extension so why would he extend with Seattle?

                          3) This makes the Phillies a little better IMO, but they still have big holes in the BP and at the #5 spot.

                          4) I hope the Jays eat some of Halladay's '10 contract or it means the Phils payroll just went up 7+ million.

Yeah, that's the problem. 5 years for a 31-year old pitcher who missed the first month of last season with "elbow soreness". When he's healthy, he's good.

Boston can afford that contract, but I'm not sure I'd send Bucholz packing just yet thinking that you've solidified your rotation.
