  • Report: Phillies snag Halladay in blockbuster

The Phillies, Blue Jays and Mariners have agreed to a trade that will send Roy Halladay to Philadelphia and Cliff Lee to the Mariners, according to an SI.com report.
The exact terms of the deal have not yet been reported, although the Blue Jays were reportedly willing to pay some of Halladay's salary in the right trade. Lee and Halladay are both in the last year of their contracts, with Lee owed $9 million and Halladay's deal calling for $15.75 million in 2010. The Phillies are currently working on an extension with Halladay that would keep him in Philadelphia long term. He went 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA over 32 starts in 2009, spanning a league-high 239 innings.

Lee was so dominant for the Phils and became a fan favorite there. Seems strange to deal him with all his post season success but you can't really turn down a chance to get a guy like Halladay. He'll destroy the NL. Lots to be happy about for Jays fans. They get pretty much nothing.

Yea I'm kinda shocked they gave up Lee, if they had them both, they would've run away with the NL. They probably didn't have the prospects to keep him, so they brought the Mariners in on the deal. I'm interested to see what the Mariners gave up to get Lee. Good move by them. Glad they're trying to do something. Lee and King Felix is a nice start.

SI.com is reporting this afternoon that the Philadelphia Phillies have acquired ace right-hander Roy Halladay in a 3-way trade with Toronto and Seattle.

SI.com's Jon Heyman tweeted the deal was done, but backtracked to say the deal was pending Halladay being extended by the Phillies. Heyman also tweeted that he wasn't 100 percent sure the pitcher headed to Seattle was Cliff Lee or Cole Hamels.

Heyman also tweets that the Philly Inquirier is reporting a Halladay sighting in the city, too.

Rosenthal reported last week that the Phillies were offering a package of young players, likely including left-hander J.A. Happ and one of two outfielders, Dominic Brown or Michael Taylor.

The Angels reportedly offered Joe Saunders, Erick Aybar and a prospect for Halladay last week, and Rosenthal adds that the Halos could also be that third team.

Maybe it isn't Lee that's leaving???

My guess would be Hamels, didnt he have a falling out with the Phillies organization during the world series or right after?

It can't be Hamels, can it? Wow if they were able to keep all 3, that would be ridiculous.

It also looks like the 3rd team may be Anaheim, not Seattle. That would make more sense too with them losing Lackey and looking for a pitcher!

According to FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi, RHP Phillippe Aumont and Phillies OF Michael Taylor are among the prospects headed to Toronto.
The pieces are starting to fall into place on this three-team blockbuster trade involving the M's, Phillies and Blue Jays. Aumont, 20, has a 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 109/42 K/BB in 106 2/3 career minor league innings. He was selected in the first round by Seattle in 2007. Taylor, 23, boasts a .312/.383/.515 batting line in 1,306 minor league plate appearances.

Also, i find the Lackey signing very interesting. IMO, that opens the door for a Buchholz trade now ...... Possibly to San Diego for Gonzalez?

The Phils have the prospects for Halladay, but Amaro has been stubborn so far.

If it's Lee and Brown/Taylor, I think I may be upset.

Money wise, maybe not, but they have the prospects. Great move by the Phillies if it's true. You trade for one of the best pitchers in baseball, you compete for a few more titles while you rebuild your minors. That's the way it should be done.
