I am just curious as to what yard line you folks think it was a good move to go for it would think it would NOT have been a good move to go for it-25 yard line, 20 yard line, 15 yard line, 10 yard line, etc.(with 4th and 2) and punt? I ask this in all sincerity.

It was a damn dumb call and ex players are saying the same thing. He had no confidence in his defense.

I totally agree-I think deep down inside Belichick knows it was an ill advised decision also, but we all know he is quite arrogant and finds it difficult to admit an error in judgment.

That makes it the right call. He had more confidence in the offense. He played the percentages. He lost.

Tom Brady escaped some blame. From one angle the pass was thrown slightly behind the runner. A better throw and it's an easy catch. I'm not suggesting it's Brady's fault. It's still a catch a NFL player should make. It's also a pass that Tom throws better most of the time.

That doesn't make it the right call. Look at the quotes by some of his former players that were on defense Teddy comment more or less without going into it would have been pissed. Coming into this game NE had one of the best defenses in the league on points allowed.

You punt and make Manning go 60-70 yards for the TD.

Since when does the so-called expert ex-players have a clue?

Why wouldn't they when they are the ones that execute on the field.

As reported on ESPN's Outside the Lines using statistical analysis from Advanced NFL Stats.com

The percentage for a Patriots win vs Colts:

Going for it on 4th down 79%
                    If they punted 70%

Statistically, it was the correct decision.

I would have went with the 70%

Hard to believe going for it on your on 29 yard line with 4th and 2 with 1:54 is the right way to go.

The same site did a study on 4th down. In short the study statistically proved that coaches and teams should go for it more often on 4th down depending how many yards are needed for the first down. That coaches are too conservative.
