It's all relative as frank said. Your earlier posts just acted like it was no big deal. They will just transfer to a different school and play football.......they will still get a degree and have a career, none of which is true.

The bottom line is that these kids had life by the balls, and they will never get back the opportunity they had. If convicted the course of their life is forever altered.

Kind of silly comparison to say their lives aren't ruined by comparing them to people with cancer and are dying. Using that example you could minimize a lot of things. So you got convicted of rape and will spend the next 20 years in jail? Ahhh, so what, at least you are still alive. At least you can still walk, talk, hear, see, etc.

It's all relative. Some feel they have a shitty life. Of those most don't take a trip to the local cancer ward to see how lucky they truly are. We look at our lives as woulda, coulda, shoulda. Again, when you consider the opportunity they were given and what they did with that opportunity it's easy to say they 'ruined' their life. OK they didn't ruin their life but the certainly 'ruined' their chances for a better life, long term.

I'm sorry monte but that is just a stupid comparison. I've lost 4 close family members to cancer in the last 4 years and never once did i look at my dad and say "You ruined your life with cancer". That would be idiotic. Cancer ruined his life, not him. Saying "They" as in these kids means it was something they had control of, unlike several million people with cancer. You can say they smoked or whatever to cause cancer but millions did NOTHING to cause it. These kids ruined their own lives, the kids in those cancer hospitals had no say in what happened to them. Comparing the two makes zero sense and i truly think you have missed the point after reading this.

Show me where in my earlier posts I said it was no big deal. And trying to compare 20 years in Jail vs. 2 years is laughable.

Who said tell someone with cancer their life is ruined? I'm comparing 2 dumb kids who did a stupid thing vs. saying their lives are ruined. Now in comparison vs. them having cancer which they very well may not live to see another day is quite a different story from what they are facing which is a few years of jail time. And in comparison vs. someone who is paralyzed in a wheelchair is much different than going to jail for a few years. Which situation would you rather be in?

My whole point is there lives are not ruined. Sure they probably fucked up a good thing and free scholarship, but they can overcome whats coming ahead of them. It's their decision to choose what happens next in there lives while some people don't have those choices.

As much talk is made on how the ARMED ROBBERS lives are ruined, imagine how the people (the real victims) in the car must feel having a gun pointed at you, not knowing if it is fake at the time, and wondering if this was the last time they were going to see loved ones

I didn't say you said it was a big deal, I said your posts acted (made it sound as if) it wasn't a big deal.

What is laughable is that you think my comparison is laughable, when you are trying to make your point by saying their lives aren't ruined by comparing a couple years in jail to dying of cancer to support it. Read the other posts, everyone but you thinks your comparison is the ridiculous one. Everyone but you also thinks these guys totally fucked their lives up.

If you are naive enough to think spending what should be the greatest four years and opportunity of your life (college degree, big man on campus, shot at the NFL, etc) in jail doesn't devastate the kids lives, then there is really not point in trying to debate. These kids aren't like most of us that grew up in middle or upper middle class situation. Yes, if I was stupid enough to do something like this I would stand a reasonable chance of still making something out of my life. Odds are these kids are not very intelligent, and football was the ONLY opportunity these kids had to make a life for themselves. If they didn't play football they would still be living in the inner cities, hanging out all day, selling drugs, committing crimes, etc. If convicted, when they are released from jail it is almost a guarantee that they will be heading back to that life, instead of graduating from college and possibly playing in the NFL. True, the odds of making it to the NFL were still long, but now they are zero. There are countless stories like Maurice Claret, top notch athletes that fail out of school, get kicked out of school, get arrested, that end up in and out of jail the rest of their lives.

Sorry, but you are on the wrong side of the argument and everyone sees it but you.

It's OK! They can still walk, talk and go to another school. There's some silver lining in this dismissal.
