  • MLB Umpires

What did everyone think of that bullshit call in the 12th inning last night when the 2nd base umpire called Cabrera safe saying Aybar missed the bag while turning the double play. I agree he missed the bag but you can make that call at least once a game all year long but they rarely ever do. I have seen the ss or 2nd baseman 5 feet away from the base when they get the throw and the umpires call the out 99% of the time. While it certainly didn't cost the Angels the game, it was never the less a horrible call. You don't make that call in a playoff game when you don't make the call all year. I have seen some of the worse umpiring in the playoffs this year that I can remember. You would think MLB would bring their best umpires for the playoffs. If these guysare the best then I would hate to see the worse.

players don't touch the bag on double plays half the time imo...it's like a pitch two inches off the plate, umps need to call it consistently or don't call it at all...crappy time to make that call...

That is what's most infuriating. They don't make that call 999 times then on the 1000 time for some reason an ump decides to call it.

I've seen some really bad calls in these playoff games. the worst was that ball down the line a few days ago at Yankee Stadium. The ump was right on top of the play. The ball was two feet fair and he called it foul.

If that call affected the outcome somehow than it would be worth talking about.

He was at least a foot from the bag so at least make an attempt to hit the bag and they give it to you.

That is probably the worst call I've ever seen in all sports in my entire life. It's beyond comprehension how a human can get that call wrong.

Can anyone recall a worse call in any sport?

Yeah it was Joe Mauer's should be double down the left field line. The ball was 2 feet inside the foul line. They have 2 extra umpires in the playoffs to make calls down the outfield lines, yet they can't make the simplest of calls. A mistake like that gets someone fired in most jobs. Like a trashman accidentally collecting recycling for a day.

It was late, cold and, rainy; perhaps the ump. just decided he wanted to try to get the game over with, and figured since the hometown fans would approve the call, he figured what the heck.
Perhaps above is an exaggeration, but considering the circumstances anything is possible.

Umps get paid to make calls like that one correct 100% of the time. He was standing 15 feet from where the ball landed. The ball bounces inside the chalk its fair. It wasn't close.

I agree. Plain and simple. That ump should be fired. There's no excuse getting that call wrong.
