I will never try to justify wrong doing.... Serena was wrong... I agree with you... There is no place for that type of behavior... I just have problems with people who try to justify their racial issues by making every little thing about race.(i.e. Jordan follows ) Get over it..

I agree Frank. Tennis also does not need the Williams sisters, the sport is not huge with them and they have been around a while. Tennis needs more Anna Kournakova's

I'm at a loss how anyone can compare and defend the above quote to calling someone an idiot. I don't care what year they were said.
To us, her comments are dispicable. To 40 year olds back in 1979 Mac;s comments were the same. In 1949, a cold stare at the line judge was uncalled for.

I am not defending her comments by any stretch. I can assure you that most 20 year olds don't find her behavior dispicable at all. They hear worse language than that on the bus to school every day.

More of a statement of society and the acceptance of poor behavior than on any individuals.

I can't disagree with you here. What I don't understand the media is normally all over this type of story. Why has Serena gotten a free pass? ESPN loves these stories. They've basically ignored it.

I agree Frank ... always liked watching him play tennis ...

Correct and it is a sad trend for the future. As long as our society does not want to offend evil people instead of disiplining them, we are in for more of this.

If more people watch tennis because they have a "bad girl" to pull against (or for, for that matter), is that bad for tennis?

Fortunately, or unfortunately, Serena's tirade will probably generate a higher audience at her next tournament.

They may be watching for the wrong reason, but they will be watching. She can at a minimum expect hecklers to follow her to try to get a negative response.

I say good for tennis. More people watching, let the senior officials manage the negative publicity.

Americans won't watch tennis until American men can contend for the title at Wimbledon or the US Open. The casual fan could care less about the Australian or French Open.

If you watched the womens final last night on ESPN2 right after they came back from their first commercial break after the beginning of the broadcast they replayed with full audio exactly what she said. She told the lineswomen she was gonna shove this tennis ball down her mother fucking throat. Was a crazy clip but they showed it in slow motion with audio peeping out the swear words but showing everything word for word what she said that you cannot see in that youtube clip you posted....
