I believe Lowrie has a lot more potential and would be playing every day if he was completely healthy.
That is not the case though, and that is precisely why Sox went out and acquired Gonzalez to begin with.
You believe what you want and i'll believe the numbers.

5.5 million? Does Gonzalez wear a fucken Ski mask when he goes to pick up his check every 2 weeks? Fucken disgusting .........

In all honesty while I personally liked the pickup of Gonzalez, for this season anyways, I don't think he or anyone else who they can pickup after the trading deadline is going to turn the season around.
Sure they might still make the playoffs as the wildcard team but there are simply too many injuries and/or disappointments(Wakefield and Matsuzaka, Ortiz, Varitek and on and on) to have any kind realistic of chance to winning the WS this year.
Thus I really don't think it really matters who is a better shortstop for this season; I hope I am wrong, but I think the outlook for the remainder os this season is bleak.
Hopefully over the winter they can land the big name of shortstop which will make all Sox fans happy.

There is a "pretty good" shortstop who plays for the Marlins who would fit in with the Sox just fine.

His defense wasn't the only thing winning games for atlanta back then. His bat was a huge part of it. Gonzalez? None of that. He fucken sucks!

Savage, how many titles does Mark Belanger have?

Far from a 'good move' but worth a shot, IMO.

figured I'd look myself....surprised he has one. I agree that defense up the middle is important but if you want to throw that out there, Boy Wonder better be more worried about Varitek than the shortstop position. A walk is as good as a double against his weak ass arm and he is going to cost them more than having Green as your SS!

He has a C on his chest so that's ok.

I think they are stealing more off Peny than Tek though. Penny seems to have 5 or 6 steals against him every time he pitches. Remember when Crawford for TB had 5 or 6 against him in 1 game. Penny is horrible at holding runners!

I totally agree here. Varitek's skills have deteriorated badly, not just as a hitter but also in his inability to throw runners out.
Yeah he still calls a great game, but at this point of his career imo Francona seriously has to give Martinez a lot more playing time here;Martinez may not call as good a game as does Varitek, but I feel in this case his offensive contributions would far outweigh that.
Don't forget also that Francona and Varitek can also school Martinez on how to pitch certain batters, and even I would think be able to give some kind of signal from the dugout during the game or come out to the mound to talk about how to pitch a certain batter should the circumstances warrant it.
ps I agree about many times it is stealing on the pitcher rather than the catcher, but lets face it, Varitek is getting up there in years and being able to react and release his throws to second or third quickly with a strong throw are crucial.

The Sox can sign Ozzie Smith and you'd think it was a great news for the Sox and their fans.

Can we create a Red Sox forum for Savage to create useless threads? This way I don't have to read through 50+ useless posts about some .210 super star.

Mike, I'm a Red Sox fan and other Red Sox fans make me wanna puke at times. Who else would start a thread saying us Red Sox fans have Good News and you open up the thread and it is about them trading a bag of balls for a .210 hitter. BIG FUCKEN DEAL. That is how dillusional some of these fans are. He then goes on some long winded fucken rant about Mark Belanger when i said Gonzalez sucks? This guy is fucken "Touched" and it isn't even funny anymore.
Only Homer Savage would create a thread with the title "Good News" for the acquisition of a .210 hitter.

They have talked about getting Huff for years. I was pissed when i saw that today. I would have let Baldelli go and kept Huff!
