The Red Sox pitching is horrible and unless Victor Martinez can pitch, we REALLY fucked up at the trading deadline. It's pretty obvious.

I am a very big Varitek fan but I am sick and tired about hearing how much they lose defensively with Martinez. Tem may call a great game but their pitching blows and he can't throw anyone out. It's getting close to the time where he needs to be splitting time with Ortiz And that's it!

Did he sign a 1 or 2 yr deal?

I think the team has an option for 5 million and Varitek has the option for 3 million. Even if Boston doesn't pick up their option, Varitek can pick up his so he is basically here next year too unless somebody offers more.

Not having Wakefield and an effective and healthy Dice K really brings the pitching staff as a whole to mediocrity.
Wouldn't it be something if Smoltz pitches his best game of the season and shuts out the Yankees tomorrow.
