You have a good point there. But in the end it often is the Yanks vs. Red Sox in a bidding match for the best players. And 90% of the time, because of $$$, the Yanks will win.

That, IMO, separates the Sox and Yanks.

It is almost double what Boston spends BW and not even close. With 80 million more to spend, Boston could get a TON more talent.

Hell, just the difference of 79 million could pay the whole team salary for 14 teams. That is freakin' RIDICULOUS and NOWHERE NEAR close!

On a side note, I was at the Yanks game on Saturday, and a friend of a friend is one of the head of the suites. We got a tour of everything, got to see where Cashman and Steinbrenner's suites are. It was pretty cool, but pretty laughable how extravagent (sp.) everything was.

It's hard to believe the Astros are 8th in payroll. I expected them to be a lot lower i guess.

I heard the players have a pool, sauna, game room, diner and everything in their clubhouse!

That helps in getting players too!

Didn't get to go down there. But the guy giving us the tour told us the suites are $650,000 a year. 650k for 81 games. Doesn't include refreshments, food or anything, just for the room. It's unbelievable that people will pay that.

I know, you could be a millionaire and still not want to blow all your money on 1 season. WTF ..........

I'm really torn. I would love to have Roy but i don't want to give up all the players they would have to, to get him. I think you are right and he isn't going to Boston anyway.

Hey IMO Boston has 3 starters i really, really like. That's Beckett, Lester and Buchholz. After that, i'm just not sure what to think right now. Hell, i'm not even sure about Buchholz, leaving me with 2 that i feel really good about.

IMO, if it gets down to Yanks v. Sox...... Yanks have a good pitching advantage.

If the Sox get Halladay all that changes.

I feel either way the AL East will get 2 teams in. Thank god for the WC because before they had that, we never had a chance and nobody else in baseball had to worry about the NYY in their division except those AL east teams. They were always at a bigger disadvantage than everyone else. Now with the WC, we all have a chance and you are right, if they don't improve, the Yankees are just too good at so many positions.

How is Boston 8-0 against the Yanks this year and 1.5 back in the standings. That sucks!!!

Do you really think so? I think the starters are on par, maybe a very slight ad to the NYY, the bullpen in the Red Sox...although Hughes has been huge.

BW, I typically agree with what you have to say but to say the Red Sox are the Yankees when it comes to spending money is crazy. And don't give Cashman the same amount of credit as Theo for having young players on the roster...outside of Cano, who Cashman tried desperately to include as part of the trade for Randy Johnson, everyone else is arole player at best. Gardner? Melky? Hughes has been great for what, 15 games? Who else? I do agree that it is funny to listen to Red Sox fans cry about howw the Yankees spend, spend, spend...you'd think they have a $50 million payroll!

by the way, I don't know what is funnier, Omar Minaya collecting over the hill hispanics, or Theo collecting white guys that hit .250...
