Brewers offered 100 million. I don't doubt the Yankees will overpay (although for some reason they didn't for Johan), but the Red Sox won't come close to offering what the Jays will want.Originally posted by wayne1218 View PostDo you even remember the 2nd highest offer to Sabathia? Nobody was close to NY and they over paid for him too.

I think it's funny that Ben Afleck and RedSox fans think the RedSox are not like the Yankees. The payrolls are close enough, they both tried to sign ARod and Tex, they both have young players that have been on the team since the minors and they both have big time players they traded or signed via free agent.Originally posted by wayne1218 View PostI do find it funny how people think Boston is just like the Yankees and they spend the same way. Their payroll hasn't even been top 3 the last couple years and like most teams (Except NY), they do have a budget they go by.

They'll throw Duncan in the minors and hope he re-discovers whatever helped him hit 21 homers in 2007. That was basically a throwaway to get rid of Lugo, who was useless to them after clearing waivers.Originally posted by wayne1218 View PostRed Sox trade Lugo to St Louis for Chris Duncan
WTF is going on here. Which spot is Duncan going to take and that is another guy off the roster? Who??
Something is up here guys ........

That's just recently though, with the new stadium. They really had to over pay this summer, there was no way they could go into that new stadium without a better team.Originally posted by mavskidd02 View PostNobody is like the Yankees. No one comes even remotely close. The numbers are outrageous. 200 mil for the Yanks. No one else is even over 150 mil.

That may be the true, but the Yanks have always been #1 in spending. It may be higher this year, but it's not like this was a huge jump from years past.Originally posted by BigWeiner View PostMore recently the Yankees have gotten ridiculous with their spending, but for years it was very close. If the RedSox build a new stadium they'll spend more."CFB YTD: 5-8-1 -16.2"

I don't think Halladay is going anywhere either!Originally posted by BigWeiner View PostNobdoy wants Penny trust me, they'll take him, but they're not gonna give up anything good for him. I doubt the BlueJays would trade Halladay for anything, it would haunt them too much, but they've just taken Johan.

Even so, so the Yankees spend $200 million and the RedSox spend $125, they still do the same stuff, the Yankees just overpay and aren't as smart about it. The Dodgers and Mets are basically running the business the same as well these days.Originally posted by mavskidd02 View PostThat may be the true, but the Yanks have always been #1 in spending. 79 million difference BW and 4th overall. There is NOTHING CLOSE about that.Originally posted by BigWeiner View PostI think it's funny that Ben Afleck and RedSox fans think the RedSox are not like the Yankees. Yankees payroll was also higher in '08 than it was in '09

If you look at that '08 column, it's sickening how much the Yanks out-spended the league."CFB YTD: 5-8-1 -16.2"
