You should not be in an All Star Game with with 4 ERA no matter what, and I also don't like the one rep per team rule either.

I totally agree with that. The Cubs do not have an all star caliber player this year so far. I mention the Cubs cause I follow them more closely than others, but some teams don't have players that merit all star status.

Here's my idea. We're going to have this game count for something right??

Okay, take the two managers with the best records at the time in their league (AL, NL). So for this year, Boston and LA, Francona and Torre...... These two guys. with the best records, have expectations of the World Series, and will want to WIN the game, so they can have home field advantage.

Let those two coaches PICK THE ENTIRE TEAM. They will want a team that can win, guys that can win, guys who want to win and guys who are capable of winning. Let the coaches pick those guys. You then have a pool of players who did not get chosen, and the fans get to vote in two players from each league who were left off.

If it's going to count for something, I think it should be taken seriously, and played as if it were a real game.

And if that means the Pirates, Orioles, Nationals and so on don't get an All-Star. Good. They don't deserve one anyway.

i know the fans voted him in, but josh hamilton??? really??? he's missed over half the season and hasn't been good when he's played...this is an all-star game for this year, right???

...and i also hate the "every team gets a representative" thing also...

The fans are ignorant... No way Hamilton should be even considered and Dustin Pedroia at 2nd base? Bullshit.... Kinsler deserves that over everyone!

The Pirates suck and it's their own fault, if they don't want to spend money and field a decent team, they don't deserve an All-Star. Freddy Sanchez? He's not an all-star, it's that simple.

Mark Reynolds isn't an All-Star but Sanchez is? Give me a break.

Reynolds has 4x as many HRs, twice as many RBIs, is a hundred points higher in SLG % and they have identical OBPs. I think if Sanchez was on any other team, he'd of been left off this team, that's JMO.

he also has more than twice as many strikeouts, avg.is 56 pts lower,15 less hits, less doubles, more errors,etc,....im not saying that reynolds is not deserving but you are basically calling sanchez a bum which he is not

and he is only 20 pts higher in slg % than sanchez

Sanchez isn't a bum by any stretch of the imagination. He's also a stellar fielder, but IMO, there are guys more deserving than him of the team. Sanchez made the team because he was the best player on the Pirates.

Kinsler, Sandoval early Final Vote leaders
Rangers 2B, Giants 3B leading out of gate for All-Star spot

                              By Mark Newman / MLB.com

Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler and Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval are the early leaders in the 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote, which is under way through 4 p.m. ET on Thursday exclusively at MLB.com.

Kinsler -- who had led in starter balloting nearly the entire way before being passed by Boston's Dustin Pedroia at the wire -- is followed in a tightly packed American League group by third baseman Brandon Inge of the Tigers, Chone Figgins of the Angels, Adam Lind of the Blue Jays and Carlos Pena of the Rays.

Sandoval has a slim lead in the National League race over center fielder Shane Victorino of the Phillies, center fielder Matt Kemp of the Dodgers, third baseman Mark Reynolds of the D-backs and shortstop Cristian Guzman of the Nationals.

I like Kemp and Victorino will replace Ibanez and Beltran. Sandoval deserves to be in
