What a ridiculous contract they gave him. $12 mil a year? Genius Minaya outbid himself on that one. The guy had a few decent outings last year but there's no way they needed to pay him that much. I guess it's because he's lefty. The Mets rotation absolutely sucks after Santana. It's a really amazing dropoff after him. Going to be a long season for the Mets unless someone else steps up in that rotation or they have some good minor league talent waiting in the wings...

Omar should have overpaid for Lowe not this headcase. And now he won't accept a minor league assignment to straighten his shit out! A-hole!.

Why would they be stupid enough to put that in a contract?

A lot of people seem to think Minaya stuck with him because he's hispanic. Lowe, Sheets, Perez...... They went with Perez.......

Perez, Santana, Reyes, Castillo, Livan Hernandez, Beltran, Santos, Castro, Feliciano, K-Rod, Tatis.

Just something I've observed about the Mets roster and who they go after. Couldn't really care less as I am not a Met fan. Maybe this just seems overblown to me because I live in NY, but it seems a lot of people think Maniya is a bit biased in choosing players. This was an issue on sports radio last year in NY.

It was not Omar putting that in the contract. That is a universal MLB rule. Any player with five years of MLB service may not be designated without his consent. Perez did not consent, there is nothing the Mets can do about it.

Then sit his ass on the bench and make him want to go down to the minors.

I think it is very fair to bring that up but I don't think it had anything to do with Lowe. I think in Perez' case, he was left with no other options as al the FA's had signed elsewhere. I am not sure I buy into it but it is awfully fishy.

I also think your list of layers is a bit off- he had nothing to do with Reyes and in K-Rod, he went after the top reliever in available. he also traded Chavez for JJ Puts, who I don't think is hispanic!

Exactly, it has zero to do with the contract. Now he sits in the BP, takes a spot of a useful arm and gets spot work when he needs to go start games. Its a selfish move and the team is left with zero options.

And you can't say he chose Perez over Sheets as Sheets isn't even pitching.....

Three jack, Im from NY, Huge Mets fan..Go to many games, have ticket packs, etc... MINYANA is a hispanic lover. Lets call a spade a spade. The guy takes chances on every hispanic player out there. This is brought up all the time on the talk radio here in NY, but its usually downplayed and pushed to the side really fast. I dont know why the owners allow this, but its horrible and its pissing a lot of people off. I wish Minyana would go..I cant stand the dude

This is just what the talk is sometimes here in NY about Maniya. Obviously he traded Chavez for Putz, Putz is a ten times better play than Chavez. What set a lot of people off in NY WAS LOWE! The Mets could have easily been involved deeply in the bidding for Lowe, and if it was Braves v. Mets, the Mets could have gotten him too. But they backed off and stuck by Perez.

I was talking about the decision at the time, when Sheets was a viable SP.

Again, couldn't care less about the Mets, and certainly don't care about the politics in the front office. Unless I have $ on 'em I root for the Mets to lose every game, as well as the Phillies and Fish.
