My point is: he is on the down slope of his career. That, people, is not debatable. So how could you give away a draft pick, and a decent one at that (probably top 45) of next year's draft? That is crazy!!!
He was the No. 1 TE in football last year!!!!!!!!!

Where in the hell do you see this "Downslope"?????????

He is also probably in better shape than TE's that are younger than him. Simply "Assuming" the downslope is here when he showed no signs of that this season is simply crazy.

If I were the Birds I'd take their first rounder (#24) and get one of these three guys:

        Hakeem Nicks (projected #21)
        Darius Bey (projected #25)
        Percy Harvin (projected #27)

I think Nicks is the best fit for this kind of offense however, and if they did cash him...... everyone (not just the South), everyone would be afraid to play this team.

He is past his prime. Are you going to argue that too?!?! THE DUDE IS PAST HIS PRIME. He may have been the best TE in football last year statistically speaking but it was the perfect storm: a shit run game, a rookie quarterback, and bad offensive line, playing from behind and hence having to throw to get back in the game, playing two games against DENVER, two games against OAKLAND, two games against SAN DIEGO! Sheesh...

This whole statement is just ignorant. It seriously is.

Why is it ignornant? The AFC West was not a premiere defensive division. I'm sorry! A rookie QB is going to look for a TE to dump passes off to because he's a rookie and because his offensive line sucks and because his running game is subpar. How is it ignorant? Please elborate! You can't just say that. Tell me why... Please. I'm not calling you names. I'm trying to debate this. I'm giving you reasons, points of view. Then I get called ignorant. You're getting too emotional. I'm willing to debate and even argue. That's what this forum is about. But if I'm going to be told my points of view are ignorant with no response, it just becomes a name calling contest. And I expect more from people. Especially the moderator.

What you did here was name several reasons why Gonzalez should have had a horrible season!

You can continue to argue with yourself because the minute you said Belichick was coaching QB's and the #1 TE in the game is on the downslope, i quickly realized it was like talking to a wall.

Maybe you need to read my post again. Nobody called you ignorant. I said your post was of ignorance and ignorant. Never said you.

You misunderstand me. When a QB's running game is not good, when his WRs are not great, when the QB is a rookie and needs a security blanket (i.e. a TE), then a TE is going to get fed. When you play teams with bad LB crews such as terrible Oakland, undersized Denver and Merriman-less San Diego, a TE is going to flourish. Do you unstand me better now?

No, when you have no running game and your WR's are weak, you double and triple team the Pro Bowl TE right off the line. Guess what, he still caught over 90 balls being double and triple teamed. Just think how dangerous he will be with other weapons around. You are making my case for me!

Dude, Kansas City was NINTH IN THE LEAGUE in pass attempts. They trailed in games and had to throw more. That was part of my statement which was deemed ignornant by you!!!!! Is it a miracle that he had one of the better season for a TE when his team was NINTH in PASS ATTEMPTS. Next!

Um Hello, IT WASN'T one of his better years, it was a Pro Bowl Tony Gonzalez year. This guy has been doing this for years and for good teams and bad!!! Oh my god ......

Gonzalez has averaged over 76 catches per season for the last 12 years. He had 99 catches 2 years ago and 96 last season. Yes, real signs of a downslope!
