I do not know about you guys but everyday there is an athlete in the paper doing stupid shit against the law......I just can not believe these guys DO NOT GET IT!! Are they that stupid or just assume since they are athletes that they will get away with anything.

Tony whats up man? Im from an inner city neighborhood in chicago and currently i work in the finanacial district. The question I have for you is do you believe because these people are athletes they shouldnt be stupid. I mean 20 percent of the guys I grew up with are either dead or are in prison and this is just a small segment or snapshot of the public. What percent of the nfl is in some kind of legal trouble? I bet its either the same or lower than our countries population. The other point Im making is that PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND MAKE BAD DECISIONS EVERYDAY! Just because theyre athletes doesnt mean they arent stupid like the 3 out of 10 people out on the streets. I just dont understand why someone like pac man jones or michael vick surprises anybody.

I work with guys in legal troubles because of dui's drugs and domestic problems because they made bad decisions and im sure like everyone else youve been there too.

i agree that many in the general population are just as dumb. My point is that these guys have people employed by the NFL and other leagues (especially lately) that speak to the players ofthis very thing. In real life we are not as fortunate to have people reminding us constantly. I mean Roger Goodell has specifically talked about and levied large penalties. I guess what really surprises me is that Pac Man has been talked to by the police i think 16 times. He just came clean last week and said he is going to do the penalty and steer clear of trouble. (i know he was not present, but i would assume he would stay out of strip clubs or limit the size of his posse)....Also the Bengals are a whole other animal....I think it has been 10 or 11 guys (not counting repeat offenders) in 14 months....I know for a fact Marvin Lewis councils them to stay out of trouble.

I also am not saying it is a racial thing. These are the players that came to mind immediately. In hockey here in florida Al Belfour hit a cop and has had many run-ins. There are other instances. It is just those were fresh in my mind and when i saw pacman i just shook my head in disbelief.

Not trying to make a huge deal. However, i also grew up in the city and i know more than a handful that are dead or in jail. However, most of those had not escaped the grips or drugs/poverty. These guys had. I mean, doesn't the good life make you not want to go back to that life even less?

I agree...people in general are stupid, and I don't care what walk of life they come from.
What makes these athletes actions seem like such a travisty is that "we" look at them and say they have so much to lose, when in fact they really don't.
If Vick gets convicted and kicked out of football (hypothetically) he wouldn't miss a meal or stuggle as long as he lives. If the same happened to me I would be able to make it one month (maybe) before all hell breaks loose.

thats where you are wrong....getting caught has nothing to do with the smartness of the act. drinking and driving is dumb....whether you got caught or not....you were lucky that your dumb decisions did not cost you or someone their lives....Have i ever driven drunk? yes in my early 20's, but i only drink maybe 4 times per year anyways and i am never behind a wheel.....I have too much to lose

I am sure arrington and many of these players are smart.....however, on some level their decision making process is off and they make dumb decisions....which in my mind is DUMB

I am sure mike vick is smart....you have to have some level to learn an nfl playbook.....i do not think it is that aspect i am questioning.

I also think RWALL is right in the Vick case, but many others like pacman may never play in the NFL again and probably does not have Mike Vick type money....

In the case of arrington he was already on the NFL fringe as far as injury and loss of talent. this just makes him a much riskier proposition to employ. I know he will land on his feet probably because he is very eloquent when he was on the ESPN show and seemed like he would be good on TV

I noticed in your writings that you were not trying to turn this into a racial thing and I for one minute didnt take it that way. No matter how many times you talk to certain people they are prone to being a fuck up. If you tell them to stay out of a night club, guess what the next night they will be there with their crew, thats just their stupid mentality.

You can turn cnn right now and there are 100 women missing and 95 percent of the time their husbands or boyfriends did it. They actually think their going to get away with it. People are just plain stupid and somewhere good old fashioned common sense never came into play.
