Questions about Stock

I have been curious about the whole stock thing for a while now and since I have graduated college I have a real job and probably could afford to safely invest money where if I lose it, it will not hurt me. Stocks have always interested me and I was curious on how this works such as how much you need to start what website to use how many shares to buy and etc. Any help or insite would be great.
