  • The Best Investment for 2009-ACTC and Stem Cell Stocks

If you are looking for a place to invest your money, stem cell research may be the place.
I have had a lot more losers than winners in speculative stocks, and my proefessionally managed account suffered badly last year.
However, I seem to have hit the jackpot at least for now with Advanced Cell Stock Technology, symbol actc.
At end of last year I was sitting on 800 shares of this stock at $.02-some was accumulated at higher prices but most I bought in the $.02-$.-03 range.
Well, to make a long story short, the stock as I write this sits at $.16 or around a $112000 gain in less than an a month.
I think this stock will go a lot higher, as the company has received some funding which was a big issue before;the price of the stock hit a couple of dollars a few years ago.
Most importantly, it is know that the Obama Administration is quite permissive in this area unlike the previous one, and that the federal ban on government funding will be lifted very soon.
I am not saying you should put every last cent you have in this stock as it has appreciated quite a bit already, but at least watch it and the news for the company and the industry as a whole.
There are actually some other companies in this area which are better known and established and are also doing quite well;they do cost more-the symbols for some of these other companies are stem, astm(Aastrom) and gern.
I fully realize that this stocks are quite volatile, and that my gain could go down at any time(I have also traded quite successfully about 10% of my holdings along the way).
However, the point is that if you buy a stock like this for the long haul and don't get rattled by short term fluctuations, I really you will make money over time, as stem cell search should do well quite well in the upcoming months and years ahead.
ps wow- as I write this, the pre market bid for actc is .185-.19.

I was looking at this last week. The reason I don't like it is, because its a pink stock. And most pink sheet stocks go broke.

This is true, and I have lost plenty along the way with stocks like this.
However, do your dd on this one-they own plenty of patents and with Obama in charge and believing in this type of technology(unlike Bush), I think chances are good here.
ps to be perfectly honest, if I didn't already own the stock, i wouldn't chase it here, as it has come a long way already.
Also, the other stocks I mentioned such as stem and gern are better established if actc is too risky for anyone.
PS I took some off the table at $.19 today-don't want to get too greedy as I know what can happen from ugly past experiences.

ps Lest there be any misunderstanding in original post, I meant to say I own 800 thousand shares of actc and not 800.

Why are they licensing some of their technology for $2.5 million? Makes me think they are hard up for cash.

            Competitors:

            GENZ
            GERN
            STEM

They just received a few million in investing cash from another company, and WHEN Obama lists the federal ban on federal grants, the perception is that money won't be a problem.
The price as I write this is .225-up .065 on the day-I ain't complaining thats for sure;I did sell 40000 shares today at an average of .215.
I am not in a position to question why they are licensing their technology.
Yahoo and Investors Hub have some excellent chatboards for this stock(and any for that matter).

Good move and good luck-you should make plenty.
Even though it is only own paper, it is hard for me to fathom how much I have made on actc just today(currently at .24) and in the last six weeks;I wish I could say the same about my other investments, most of which have tanked big time during the last year. lol
ps I expect it will settle back a bit, as it has gone too far too soon.

I am familiar with gern, and from what i can see the other two stocks are involved in the same area of electronics, no?
I will check them out-are they buys or holds right now in your opinion?

Plnr is at an all time low $.50 so I'm buying away, stec goes from$4-$5 daily, I'm buying at $4, I bought gern $6.50 and I'm just gonna hold that. This market realistically could get a lot worse, so waiting isn't the worst idea. I doubt anything will blow up tomorror, it might take years.

FDA's green light for stem cell trial thrills scientists

                              January 27, 2009 — 8:39am ET | By John Carroll

The FDA's decision to allow Geron to launch the first clinical trial of an embryonic stem cell therapy has sent a jolt of optimism--along with an undercurrent of fresh anxiety--coursing through the fledgling stem cell field. Stem cell researchers were clearly excited that the FDA--now operating under a new administration--would give Geron an approval to get started after first delaying a trial launch. But some also expressed some anxiety that Geron's work will proceed under a spotlight of public attention likely to magnify any success or failure.

"When you're the first, the whole world's eyes are on you," Advanced Cell Technology's Robert Lanza tells the Washington Post. "We all have our fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and nothing happens."

ACT is preparing to ask the FDA for approval to begin a clinical trial of an ESC-based therapy for blindness. And Geron will push ahead with its own trial after recruiting eight to 10 subjects with spinal cord damage.

"Today's news about Geron's embryonic stem cell clinical trials is a milestone in the new era of hope and adds to the momentum for policy change when it comes to embryonic stem cell research," said Amy Comstock Rick of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research.
