  • Merger possible? GM, chrysler talk

A deal would reshape global auto industry
    FREE PRESS STAFF • October 11, 2008

General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC owner Cerberus Capital Management have discussed the possible sale of Chrysler to GM, people familiar with the matter told the Free Press Friday night.

The idea that two of Detroit's three major automakers could unite has been floated several times in recent years -- often around major auto shows -- without coming to fruition. But if such a merger were to happen, it would not only reshape the global auto industry but also stand as a landmark moment in Detroit's history.

does this mean buy this stock? My dad told me to buy 10,000 dollars worth and he would give me the money and we would be partners.

Would the best way to do this be thru e-trade?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I don't think it's necessarily a signal to buy the stock, because GM could always declare bankruptcy which would make their stock worthless.

If you're going to buy the stock then I would recommend somewhere like First Fidelity, Charles Schwab, Scots Trade or you could go with E-Trade. If you have a local broker you can ask them how much they charge, but its usually a BS amount.

Let me get this straight, if they went bankrupt the stock would be worth nothing and we would lose our investment.

My dad is not a stock market guy at all but has a hunch. I was thinking e trade because of their free transactions. This would more than likely be something where he bought it now and wouldn't do anything for months and if it went well or busted either way he wouldn't be buying and trading on a daily basis. Kind of thing where you take your shot on a hunch and if another one came up he might do it or this might be the only transaction he makes.

Yes, if they declare bankruptcy all of us small timers shares would be worthless. I don't know if that's going to happen or not since the Government has given them money. What I don't like is the fact last week GM was denying rumors that they were not going to declare bankruptcy. That is what has me worried about this stock. Other than that I don't see GM going anywhere.

          Longshot stocks:

          FNM
          FRE
          AIG
          GM
          F

I would spread it out a little among all of the above that way if a few pan out it would cancel out the bad apples.
