What type of trading are you going to do? Daytrade, SwingTrade, Options, Mutual Funds, Long term?

Have you ever daytraded? If not you need to read certain books and paper trade first. Also do not trade on Margin.

Scottrade is cheap like $7 a trade
        Theres trading programs like cybertrader.com
Fidelity Investments has wealth Lab Pro software that lets you backtrack and test methods.

If you are going to daytrade, you also need to be very familiar with the Pattern Daytrader rules, if you plan on maintaining a margin account.

This is extremely important, unless you plan on always have an equity balance of > $25,000 in your account.

Also a book about how to daytrade. Which should show you what your fastest options of buying and selling are which is usually through other daytraders on ISLD. SOES sucks unless it got better.
