Oakland lost two of three in Colorado as the offense was completely shut down, scoring three runs in the entire series with two of those coming in the ninth and tenth innings on Wednesday. The A’s will be facing one of the comeback player nominees in Jason Schmidt who is pitching like he was two years ago. Schmidt has a 2.84 ERA on the season including an ERA 2.08 at home, where he is 4-0. He has not allowed more than two runs at home in his last six starts, posting a 1.40 ERA over that span. The A’s counter with Joe Blanton who has looked excellent in his last two outings but both of those came at home where he is much more effective. He has a 6.15 ERA on the road this season with Oakland going 3-4 in his seven road outings including losses in the last three. He has already faced the Giants once this season, going only four innings and allowing five runs on six hits.
