Sports Reporter best bet for today ..hoops

    RECOMMENDED
    DENVER over *DALLAS by 1
This is the last contest in a four-game series with the Mavericks leading two games to
one on the strength of three-point win at home and a two-point win in Colorado in OT.
With the Nuggets coming on like gangbusters lately (14 victories in their last 20 games)
and as healthy as they’ve been all season, we’ll look for them to continue their recent
success by out “quicking” the Mavericks and controlling the boards. DENVER, 95-94.

    RECOMMENDED
HOUSTON over *LOS ANGELES LAKERS by 1
It looks like the Rockets are just where they want to be — on the road and embarking
on a six-game, nine-night road trip. How else to explain their 23-10 ATS record on the
road as opposed to 9-26 ATS home? Actually the explanation is rather simple: Houston’s
scoring margin at home, where it tends to be a small dog or a favorite is -2 PPG. On the
road, where they are usually dogs taking handfuls of points, the Rockets have a scoring
margin of -1 PPG. Houston always plays defense, the Lakers rarely do. Take the points
wit the Van Gundys….again. HOUSTON, 97-96.

Winning Points best bets for baskets tonight

    **PREFERRED
    *Charlotte over Cleveland by 3
The Bobcats were without Gerald Wallace and Brevin Knight in a 120-118 OT loss in
Cleveland. While LeBron James was unstoppable, the ‘Cats got balanced scoring and
Raymond Felton embarrassed Cavs PG Eric Snow, dropping 30-7-10. Cleveland will be
road chalk coming off a big home games versus the Mavs and Heat against a well-rested
    opponent. CHARLOTTE 98-95.

    ***BEST BET
*New Jersey over Miami by 7
With Gary Payton playing though Achilles’ pain and Alonzo Mourning out with a torn
calf muscle, the Heat bench is thin, leaving Shaq with no productive backup and pressure
to play extra minutes. With Miami playing back-to-back road games, the big fella
might not have too much in the tank to keep up with New Jersey’s (2-1 SU, 3-0 ATS
vs. Miami) Big Three. NEW JERSEY 100-93.

    ***BEST BET
*Toronto over New Orleans by 11
Chris Paul is Rookie of the Year, but he will be up against a veteran having a career year
in Mike James. PF David West is breaking out in his sophomore year but he has the task
of facing future perennial All-Star Chris Bosh. The key to stopping the Hornets is limiting
those two players and Toronto is in a good spot to do so, especially if they are coming
off losses to Miami and Phoenix. TORONTO 101-90.
