Cleveland – Westbrook +165 (3 Units)
Jake Westbrook takes the hill for the Cleveland Indians and has been one of, if not the only bright spot in the Indians rotation this season. He leads all starters with a 3.00 ERA in 6 starts and has improved in each of his 3 seasons with Cleveland. ERA last 3 seasons – 5.85 to 5.83 to 3.00. WHIP last 3 seasons – 1.56 to 1.49 to 1.28. BAA last 3 seasons - .272 to .270 to .228. A substantial improvement in all three of these big pitching categories. He also sports a very solid 2.44 GB/FB ratio (66/27), which is second best in the American League behind Derek Lowe of Boston. Seattle will counter with Ryan Franklin who has been consistently average this season. In 7 starts, he has allowed at least 3 earned runs in 5 of those starts contributing to his 3.80 ERA. Westbrook meanwhile has allowed that amount in just 2 of his 6 starts. Run support has been the problem for Westbrook who comes in with a 2-2 record. In his last start against the Rangers, Cleveland put up seven runs over the first three innings. "Our starting pitchers have been doing a great job and we haven't been scoring runs for them," said Indians third baseman John McDonald. "It's important to put some hits together, run the bases and score some runs." The Indians have had their troubles this season against the Western division but Westbrook has been their most consistent pitcher going 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 3 starts against that division with all 3 games well within reach. Cleveland broke their losing streak against the Mariners on Wednesday as they crushed Seattle by getting to Freddy Garcia early and often. The offense needed a boost like that and hopefully that momentum continues into Thursday.
