Prediction: Maryland +3 -110
Explanation: 2 Units
After watching both of these two teams play on numerous occasions this season, there’s little doubt in our mind that the Terrapins are the superior team. And, with both clubs entering the game with identical 4-4 records, making this game an enormous difference maker in terms of bowl possibilities, the fact that Maryland has had an extra week to prepare is crucial. Trend players will love the fact that Maryland is 6-0 ATS in their last six tries as an underdog of a touchdown or less, dating back to the 2002 season. They’ll also love the fact that the Terps are 9-3 ATS in their final three games of the season over the last four years. Ralph Friedgen is a coach who makes his team better as the season progresses, and he’s the kind of coach that we want to support in games that are expected to be close.
North Carolina has one of the weaker running games in all of college football, gaining less than 2.7 yards per carry over the course of the season. And quarterback Matt Baker, with his 7:10 touchdown to interception ratio isn’t going to be on any Heisman short lists. The Tar Heels have scored 16 points or less in each of their last four games, lucky to escape with a two point win in two of them. A two point win won’t cut it against the rested and talented Terrapins here.
