    5 Units on Boston Celtics -2 -110
The Pacers look to shut down Pierce again and grab the lead in their playoff series when they face the Boston Celtics in Game 3. Pierce scored 40 points in the opener, including 21 in the fourth quarter, as Boston won 103-100 to seize home-court advantage from the third-seeded Pacers. Indiana defended Pierce much better in Game 2, limiting him to 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting in an 89-77 victory. The key was staying physical with Pierce for the entire game. The Pacers had contained him for three quarters in the opener before his big final period, but didn't let up at all on Monday night. Indiana can play Pierce with Ron Artest, who was runner-up to Detroit's Ben Wallace for NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. But Pierce, who averaged 25.9 points during the regular season, is one of the league's best offensive players and can be too tough 1-on-1 even for a defender of Artest's caliber. However, the Pacers are one of the league's deepest and most physical teams, and they can slow Pierce by playing tough help defense when he does beat Artest. ``He's a good defender, but I've got to give more credit to their team defense as a whole,'' Pierce said. ``I was able to get around him most of the time, but it was the help that they sent at me that caused us problems. They play great team defense.'' Pierce has made just 13-of-42 shots (31 percent) in the series. The Celtics are shooting only 39.7 percent as a team. With the series now moving to their home court, the Celtics are hoping they can avoid the slow starts they had in the games at Indianapolis.

    3 Units on Milwaukee Bucks -1½ -110
Payton was badly outplayed by fellow star point guard and Oakland, Calif., native Jason Kidd in a blowout loss in the series opener, but the Bucks bounced back to win 88-85 in Game 2 on Tuesday. Payton failed to score for the first 43 minutes of Game 1, finishing with eight points on 3-for-11 shooting with five turnovers. Some said his poor performance may have been due in part to a looming distraction. Shortly after Game 1, Payton, Sam Cassell and Jason Caffey surrendered to police in Toronto for assault charges, stemming from a fight outside a night club earlier this month. Payton also helped prevent Kidd from dominating the point guard matchup Tuesday, with the Nets being limited to nine fast-break points and Kidd committing seven turnovers. It was a low-scoring contest, however, for a Milwaukee team which led the Eastern Conference in scoring this season. Coach George Karl would like to see the pace quicken as the series moves to the Bradley Center. Another thing Karl would like to see is improved free-throw shooting. The Bucks nearly cost themselves a win Tuesday by missing three foul shots in the final 10.4 seconds and finishing 9-for-20 at the line. Milwaukee missed six of its 12 free throws in Game 1.

    3 Units on Pittsburgh Pirates -1½ +175 (Moss - L, Benson - R)
The Giants broke their first losing streak of the season on Wednesday, but they needed 13 innings to do it. After dropping two straight, San Francisco beat Pittsburgh 4-3 when Pirates second baseman Pokey Reese allowed a run to score on an error in the top of the 13th. With two outs in the inning, Pedro Feliz grounded to Pirates third baseman Aramis Ramirez, but Ramirez's throw glanced off Reese's glove and into right field as J.T. Snow scored. The Giants appeared headed for their third straight loss when they trailed 3-0 in the eighth. Then Jose Cruz tied the game with a three-run shot off Pittsburgh reliever Scott Sauerbeck. The Giants will now try to avoid losing their first series of the year, and they'll need to get past Pirates starter Kris Benson to do that. Benson has been impressive this season, but he'll be looking to redeem himself after his worst start of the season last Friday. After allowing no more than two earned runs in each of his first three starts, Benson gave up four through seven innings of a 7-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs. All four, however, came before he retired a batter in the first inning.
