Game: San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants 10:05 p.m. ET
Sport: MLB - Major League Baseball
Line: San Francisco Giants (Correia) -104
Prediction: San Francisco Giants (Correia) -104
Explanation: 1 Units
Arms Must Start: Adam Eaton / San Francisco - Kevin Correia
The Giants play host to the first place Padres on Monday in a series that could go as long way in deciding the winner of the National League West. San Francisco is seven games back so a sweep in almost imperative if it is to have any shot in making a move. Barry Bond returns to the lineup on Monday and that is obviously a huge boost for the offense. Not only do the Giants get his bat back but the hitters around him are also going to benefit.
Kevin Correia returns to the rotation after coming out of his last start after just two innings with an injury. He has pitched brilliantly of late with a 3.66 ERA over his last six starts including a 2.25 ERA at home. He has started two career games against the Padres and is 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA including a solid performance at San Diego back in July. He has allowed only one home run and two RBI’s to current Padres he will be facing tonight.
Adam Eaton has looked good in his last two starts for the Padres but he has not had much success against the Giants, going 2-4 in 11 career starts. San Diego is 2-5 in his last seven starts against San Francisco including a 1-3 record at SBC Park. The return of Bonds cannot be too encouraging for Eaton, as he has hit .316 in 19 career at-bats with three home runs off him. He has a 4.91 ERA on the road this season as opposing hitters are batting .283 in his nine road outings.
Neither team is doing much on offense as both have scored three runs or less in each of their last four games. San Diego has dropped seven of 11 on the road as the Padres sit seven games under .500. Not only is the return of Bonds crucial for the offense but it also is a spark for the pitching staff and the entire team around him. The park is going to be electric tonight as the home team has a huge edge and takes this first game of the series.
