      Key matchups to watch.......

      No. 12 Louisville at Kentucky
      1. Louisville LT Travis Leffew vs. Kentucky DE Durrell White
Leffew doesn't have great size for an offensive tackle but he still weighs 59 pounds more than White and he plays with good leverage, so RB Michael Bush should have success running behind him. White will also have a hard time getting to the quarterback, as Leffew is a fundamentally sound pass blocker.

      2. Kentucky WR Keenan Burton vs. Louisville CB William Gay
Burton is the team's most dangerous receiver and Gay will have a hard time recovering if he allows Burton to get behind him. However, Gay is the only returning starter in the Louisville secondary and he is capable of preventing the big play by staying disciplined and keeping Burton in front of him.

      3. Louisville QB Brian Brohm vs. Kentucky SS Muhammad Abdullah
Brohm appears ready to assume the starting quarterback job vacated by Stefan LeFors, who is now a Carolina Panther. However, he must be aware of where Abdullah lines up at all times. Abdullah is a playmaker who has led the team in interceptions each of the last two seasons and he does an excellent job of getting to the quarterback when asked to blitz.

Key Matchups NC State vs. VTech

No. 8 Virginia Tech at NC State
          1. Virginia Tech QB Marcus Vick vs. NC State DEs Manny Lawson and Mario Williams The expectations could not be higher for Vick and facing NC State's swarming defense in the opener is not the get-your-feet-wet matchup the first-year starter was looking for. Vick has a solid running attack to help balance things out and he has great talent at the wide receiver position in Eddie Royal, Josh Hyman and Josh Morgan to help attack a depleted Wolfpack secondary. But avoiding the wrath of the nation's finest defensive end tandem of Lawson and Williams, which combined for 29 tackles for loss and 14 sacks last season, will be a steep challenge for the junior quarterback.

When the Hokies use a shotgun-option attack with Vick, he must do a consistently good job of reading the play-side end before deciding to pitch or keep. Even more important will be Vick's ability to feel the outside rush, maintain his composure and generate second-chance passing opportunities with his feet. Vick certainly has the athletic ability to neutralize Lawson and Williams. However, with so much rust after a season out of football and with an abundant amount of outside pressures also factoring in, how will Vick respond?

          2. NC State RBs Bobby Washington and Darrell Blackman vs. Virginia Tech's Linebackers
Considering the Wolfpack's potential struggles in the passing game once again this season, look for Washington and Blackman to split a heavy load on the ground. Losing T.A. McLendon hurts, but Blackman and Washington showed loads of promise as freshmen last season. Blackman is a tough north-south runner with good toughness and power, while Washington is more of a slashing back who also catches the ball extremely well out of the backfield. The Hokies have a lot of talent returning at linebacker with Vince Hall, James Anderson and Xavier Adibi, who was lost for six games after suffering a torn tendon in his right biceps muscle during the 2004 opener versus USC. If they can keep Washington and Blackman in check, the floodgates will open up against QB Jay Davis on obvious passing downs.

          3. NC State QB Jay Davis vs. Virginia Tech Zone Blitz
Davis' inconsistency was the Wolfpack's biggest weakness in 2004. If the team is to pull off the season-opening upset against the Hokies, Davis must cut down on his mistakes and make more big plays as a passer. One aspect of this matchup that really affected Davis last season was defensive coordinator Bud Foster's zone blitz. After watching the effectiveness of this scheme, look for Foster to attack Davis with it even more this Sunday. The basic premise of the zone blitz is to attack with blitzing linebackers and penetrating defensive tackles, while dropping off one or both defensive ends in coverage on the flats. The scheme can be confusing for a quarterback to read and it often results in ill-advised throws to the "hot receiver," who often tries to slip into the vacated flat area only to find an end dropping off in coverage. With versatile ends such as Darryl Tapp and Noland Burchette, the zone blitz can be ultra-effective for the Hokies this season. Davis must do a better job of recognizing and dealing with the scheme to keep his team in this game.

I absolutely loved Louisville today.. Took them -22 for 3 units, and put them in the 4 team teaser... I think it will be 52-17 Louisville at the end of this game..
