Explanation: 1 Unit Free Pick
Arms Must Start: Toronto - Josh Towers / NY Yankees - (ACTION)
Toronto had a major slip up in Detroit as the Blue Jays were swept knocking them back down to fifth place in the wild card standings. They still sit only five and a half games back with 38 to play so all isn’t lost just yet. The Blue Jays have been one team that New York has had trouble with as they have won eight of the last 16 meetings. The Yankees have been hot at home but they catch a red-hot pitcher going against one of their own worst.
Josh Towers has allowed three runs or less in each of his last six games and has been awesome his last two starts, allowing just one run total in 15.2 innings of work. Toronto has taken five of those last six starts including all three on the road. Nine of Towers’ 14 road outings have been quality starts with Toronto going 8-6 in those games. He has been below average during the day but the Blue Jays have gone 9-5 in his night starts where he has an ERA of 3.22.
The Yankees hope Al Leiter can get things going as he has not been very efficient since coming over from Florida. He has a 4.87 ERA in seven starts with New York with the Yankees going 3-4 in those games. He has been horrible at home this season and even though he has been better at Yankee Stadium, he has been a much better pitcher on the road with an ERA that is over four and a half runs better. His control has been a real issue as he has given free passes to 22 batters in his last five games.
The Blue Jays have been hitting lefties well all season long with a .276 average including a .304 average over their last 10 games. They are 20-15 on the season against lefty starters for a profit of over 8.5 units. Like Towers, the Blue Jays have been much better in night games, going 12 games over .500 compared to just 10 games under .500 in day games. The Yankees are three games under .500 against the AL East dropping a monstrous 21.9 units. The pitching edge gives the Blue Jays the win in Game 2. Play the Toronto Blue Jays
Predicted Final: Toronto Blue Jays 5 New York Yankees 4
