  • NFL PreSeason / BASEBALL

It's one of the most overlooked, wagering opportunities in Sports Betting, the NFL PreSeason. Often, the games are ignored by numerous bettors, other than to acquire information about new players and coaches.

With 30-plus years in this business, I can tell you that some of the most respected handicappers that I know, believe that the NFL PreSeason gives them their best proposition to beat the line. There are actually fewer intangibles in many of the games, making the team and coaching performances more predictable.

Here are three of the key factors, that should be analyzed in the PreSeason games.
    1) The coaches' compulsion to win a particular game. Look for, and understand the emphasis in this type of a situation.
    2) Quarterback rotation. How long will the No.1 guy play, and will it be with the starting offensive unit?
    3) General depth and substitutions. Injuries and Free agency, will effect coaching philosophies from game to game.

We all know that handicapping and betting, are based on very simple fundamentals; requiring discipline and hard work. It's like anything else, if you're prepared, the rewards will be there.

And, remember this: A Win is a Win, regardless of when the game is played. The color of the money, always stays the same.

    Regards,
    John

    * BASEBALL, Aug.20th..... I'll use the Astros again, taking Rodrigues +125 over the Brewers with Sheets.

Sat. Night Panthers (-1.5) over Giants

Using that criteria, I think you have got to look at Carolina over the Giants Sat. night. John Fox tries to win pre-season games more than any coach. The 3 QB's being used by Carolina: Delhomme, Weinke, and LeFlours all have shown an ability to move the ball down the field, and the 3 RB's: Foster, Goings, and Shelton (rookie from Louisville) should play well. Carolina is also deep at the skill positions and in the trenches.

It looks like the Giants are going with Manning, Hassleback, and Lorenzen tonight. They have a coach who is trying different things to get this team on track, and depth is a big question mark.

I am on board with the Panthers covering the 1 and 1/2. Anyone else looking at this game or see it differently?

Thanks for your insight, unchill. All of what you say is logical, however, this particular game will not be a play for me.
Over the years )living upstate), I've developed some fairly reliable sources of information, regarding both the Giants and Jets. I believe that Manning and Lorenzen, will both get adequate playing time, with the "to-be" regulars during the PreSeason. The maturity and confidence building of Manning, will come only as a result of winning
and palying time. Remarks made by coach Tom Coughlin, indicate that there is a greater emphasis on the outcome, of the remainder of the Giants PreSeason games. The New Yorkers, are definitely a wait-and-see team for me, going either with or against them.
Good luck with your play tonight.

John Fox wins in pre-season and likes to emphasize a winning attitude. But...

...Coughlin is the KING of winnin pre-season when he was with the Jags. He didn't just win, he WON. He HATES to lose even scrimmages.

With the two coaches on equal footing, I lean to Carolina because they are superior imo.
