The bats are hitting the ball well as the offense is hitting .307 over its last games including .311 against right handed starters. The Mariners have now dropped 11 of their last 16 games including seven of nine in their last two roadtrips.
Freddy Garcia rebounded well against the Orioles after suffering back-to-back rough outings. He is having a solid season with a 3.76 ERA to go along with his 11-4 record. The White Sox have won 16 of his 22 starts this season and most importantly, 13 of the last 14 wins have been by two runs or more including the last nine by a combined score of 76-29. Chicago is 10-2 in his starts at night and Garcia has been the beneficiary of great run support as he has gotten six runs or more in 10 of his last 11 starts.
He should be able to get that kind of support again because Joel Pineiro has been getting killed. He has allowed four runs or more in seven of his last eight starts while sporting a 6.57 ERA.
The Mariners have dropped nine of his last 10 starts and seven of his 10 road starts on the season. His season ERA is now over six and the White Sox have beaten him the last three meetings as he has posted an 8.59 ERA over that span.
The Seattle ERA over its last 10 games for the starters is a whopping 7.25 so no one on the staff has had good stuff with the exception of Felix Hernandez on Thursday. If the pitchers aren’t throwing well, then the bats need to step up which they haven’t. Seattle is hitting just .245 against righties over that same stretch. 20 of the last 20 Seattle losses have been by two runs or more and another blowout should take place on Friday.
