2 Units on New York Yankees (Action) -122
Game: New York Yankees at Cleveland Indians 7:05 p.m. ET
Sport: MLB - Major League Baseball
Line: New York Yankees (Action) -122
Prediction: New York Yankees (Action) -122
Explanation: 2 Units (Action)
The Yankees hit the road after a very successful homestand where they took two of three from both the Twins and the Angels. New York has now won 17 of its last 25 games including eight of 13 on the road. On the flip side, Cleveland has not performed as well, losing 15 of their last 25 games including nine of 15 at home. This came on the heels of a great June that got them back in the wild card race but now sit four games back.
The Yankees starting pitching has been a mess this year and the signing of Al Leiter was a desperate measure to get something going. It has worked out so far as Leiter has pitched two great outings including one on the road already. He was hit hard by the Angels but they have hit all Yankees pitching this season. He pitched a solid outing in his last game despite a Yankees loss and the road is where he has actually pitched well this season with a 3.76 ERA.
The Indians counter with Scott Elarton who has been very consistent but he isn’t one to throw that special game. He has allowed three earned runs or more in 13 of his 19 starts and of those six sub-three run games, only one has come in his last seven outings. Cleveland is 2-5 in those seven starts including three straight losses where the Indians have scored just seven runs (2.3 rpg) including three runs at home (1.5 rpg).
The Indians have hit just .241 on the season against left handed pitching and have lost seven of its last nine games against southpaw starters including four of five at home. Even since a 22-0 Cleveland win last season, New York has taken five of the last six meetings with Darrell May being the only losing starter this season in the four meetings. The Yankees are 13-5 in series openers following a win. Play New York Yankees
Predicted Final: New York Yankees 6 Cleveland Indians 4
