It marked the first time this season that the Lakers were not led by O'Neal or Bryant. The Kings have won two of three against the Lakers this season, including a 105-99 triumph here on December 25.

He lined the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning after blasting his third homer of the year in the sixth. While his offensive heroics were important, the perennial AL Gold Glove Award-winner also sparkled behind the plate. His snap throw to first in the top of the ninth picked off pinch-runner Joe McEwing to snub a potential Met rally.
