The tough opponents’ starting pitching doesn’t end for the Mets but this could be their best shot at getting to Tim Hudson. New York took the first game of this four game series and it is a series that needs to be won if the Mets plan on sticking around for a run at the wild card spot. The Braves have the third best home record in the National League but they are five games under .500 on the road thanks to an offense hitting only .245.
Hudson is making his first start in over a month and he will be watched and kept on a limited pitch count. He has struggled on the road this season as he has a 4.81 ERA and he has given up four or more earned runs in three of his last five starts away from home. The Braves dropped his last three games before he went on the DL and even when he was healthy, Atlanta went just 4-6 down the stretch in games he started.
Victor Zambrano has been spectacular this season although his record may not show it. He is just 4-7 on the season but his ERA is around three and a half runs per game and he has allowed three runs or less in 12 straight starts and 15 of 16 this year. His one bad start came against Washington and by throwing that game out, his home ERA drops from 4.12 to 3.05. He has a 2.45 ERA against the Braves this season in two starts.
Even Hudson says that he still is not back to full strength. "It`s not going to feel like 100 percent for a long time," said Hudson, "but that`s what you get with pulled muscles." Even if he is effective, the Mets get a chance at the Braves bullpen once again which has been a big disappointment all season long. Atlanta is hitting only .228 on the road against righties and its .245 overall road average is third worst in all of baseball as is its .311 OBP. Play New York Mets
