    SYRACUSE +5 over KANSAS
    SYRACUSE vs. KANSAS UNDER 158

There can be a tendency at championship time to focus on so many of the surrounding issues because of the emotion of the setting. Which coach, Jim Boeheim or Roy Williams, finally gets that trophy? Do seniors like Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison cut down the nets because of their years of hard work, or does the super talent of Carmelo Anthony overcome the veterans?

Yet it still comes down to the same game on the court that has been played since early November, and that is where we have to start here. And that start tells us that the line value is to the underdog tonight.

We do not have to look at various power ratings over the course of the last five months to get the proper feel for what +5 means – all we have to do is compare how Syracuse has done against teams from the very Big 12 that Kansas played in this year, with an unusual tournament bracket giving us some substantive comparisons.

En route to this championship affair, the Orangemen have solidly handled Oklahoma State (68-56), Oklahoma (63-47) and Texas (95-84) through the first five rounds, beating the spread by 42 points in the process. And it was not as though they played the same game three times.

They trailed Oklahoma State by double figures in the early going, before resorting to a full-court press and altering the tempo to turn the game around. They jumped ahead of Oklahoma early and turned it into a grind it out affair, with the 2-3 zone doing most of the damage. And in a game of ebbs-and-flows they were able to out-run Texas, comfortably handling the Longhorns despite how well the losers shot over the zone (10-21 3-pointers).

So how do they go from three dominating performances to being +5 here? The bottom line is that Syracuse has the athleticism and versatility to match up well against anyone and any tempo. And in Anthony they have a player that can step to a level that others can not match.

Kansas indeed has a special chemistry, and few teams in recent memory run the floor better than they do. But the Jayhawks have not been effective against zone defenses, which means that on those occasions in which they do not beat the Syracuse defense down the floor they are going to struggle to find their points.

Despite the last statement, however, our play on the Under is only a small one, even at the rather high price. While Boeheim will know that stopping the Kansas transition attack is important, his own squad is also at its best when running the floor. They may not mind allowing an easy basket every once in a while if it means that they can take the ball right back down the floor at a frenetic pace.

The bottom line is that the price is simply too high here, based on the way that Syracuse has handled comparable opponents. The seniors of the Jayhawks may show a little more poise and grit down the stretch to pull it out, but not before we see a championship game that has a chance to be something special.

    2* SYRACUSE +5
    1* UNDER 158

    Curious to know?

Why are you giving this forum tonites NCAA hoops play for free and charging 35.00 for it on procappers?

Do you have a website? No, but you did start a yahoo group:

Gentlemen...Welcome to The High Rollers Club.

If you only have 1 member, then why do you have this on this group page:

The High Rollers Club is a concept established earlier in the decade. It's a co-operative venture where we pool our dough and enough of us go together to purchase these "High Roller Plays". Instead of one guy dropping $2500.00 for a single play, 50 of us drop $50.00 and we all get the big play for peanuts. What ends up happening is instead of playing 30 regular selections from "Joe Blo's" free pick phone through the week and going 16-14 we play 7 or 8 High Roller Games of the Week from the biggest names in the industry

    Just curious to know?
