NC State defeated Wake Forest in the ACC tournament on national TV and now they are everyone's tournament darlings. The win over Wake was a good win for this club but they are only 7-8 in their last 15 games, nothing to get too excited over. Before the ACC tournament started, they were a bubble team needing a win to be considered an at-large team. They got that win over Georgia Tech and then followed that up with the win over the Demon Deacons. They had a big lead over Duke before falling apart late and losing the championship game. Cal finished with a disappointing loss against USC in the PAC 10 tournament. Prior to that they were 2-2 with the 2 losses at Stanford and against Arizona. Before that, they were 13-3 and even with the loss to the Trojans, they are the better team. They have a #33 RPI compared to a #53 for NC State and are obviously playing better late in the year. Cal senior guard Brian Wethers (14.9) sat out most of the loss to USC because of tendonitis in his right ankle but will return for this game. His offense will be an added asset to take some of the pressure off of leading scorer Joe Shipp (20.3 ppg). The Bears will be ready for this one coming off that disappointing game. "That was not a typical Cal day," Cal coach Ben Braun said. "We know we're more solid than that."
