This is one of the marquee games of the weekend pitting two teams that are both leading their divisions respectively in the American league. White Sox have been atop the AL Central since the first week of the season. and the Rangers have been hanging around the top all season. This game has an interesting sideline besides the fact it could be a preview of the ALCS. Chicago will send out it's ace Garland who has won eight games in a row for a slate of 8-1 and an ERA of 2.57. He is first in the AL in wins, third in WHIP (1.04) and fourth in ERA. To be frank he is having a breakout season thus far. He possesses solid sinking FB, but had struggled to find a complimentary pitch so batters couldn't sit on the FB. His curve has been fine, but inconsistent in previous seasons, and now appears to have the ability to change speeds well. Garland's real problem is he has a history of big counts, pitching from behind, which is why he was 4th in the AL last year in home runs given up last year.

His mound opponent Park is 4-1, 4.61 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and has really recreated himself after a couple years that everyone thought his career was over. He has struggled with command of his pitches, and to make it worse his velocity dropped. An illustration of how bad his command was last year, he hit "13" batters in 95 innings pitched and gave up 22 homers in 200 innings trying to make the big/perfect pitch all the time. The side story to this is the game he had last year where he totally lost control of his emotions and began throwing at the opponent who was of all things the team he is pitching for now, the Texas Rangers.
