Cal-Poly –2.5 (2 Units) 3:00 pm EST
Going with the Mustangs here in the quarterfinals of the Big West, as they will be trying to avoid the three game series sweep. Cal-Poly has won 7 of their last 11 games with the 4 losses coming by an average of just 3 ppg. Idaho got their biggest win of the season at Utah St. three games ago but are coming off a home loss to Northridge deflating what could have been a good momentum shot heading into the tournament. We feel the Mustangs are the better team at this point and should be able to control the paint with Dennis and Schilling as they did in the last meeting. They were out rebounded in the first meeting due to a poor 36% shooting effort. What did them in in the second meeting was their 3-16 effort from behind their arc. They had a 9-point halftime lead and let it slip away in the 3-point loss thanks to an 18-5 Vandals run. Cal-Poly has improved their offense the last 5 games, shooting 45% and averaging 75 ppg compared to 43% and 69 ppg overall on the season. What has also improved is their free throw shooting as they have hit 74% recently. At a point this season, they were hovering around the 50% mark and with their improvement, they are up to 66% overall. With the tournament in Anaheim, the Mustangs have the easier travel schedule and will have the stronger fan base. Look for the Mustangs to advance will the big win on Thursday.
