  • Hopefully a guide to winning in hoops

I would recommend doing a consensus of the below if you use service plays. If not, do a consensus of the guys at Bettorschat that post their plays everyday. Or do a consensus
of both services and people that post their plays everyday at Bettorschat. Hope this helps some of the newbies here.

    Billy Coleman
    Godspicks
    Fade the Duke
    Animal NBA 4 stars
ATS College 3,4 and 8's and NBA 3's
    Blazer 4's college
California College 3's and NBA 4's
Executive College and NBA 350 or higher
    Fixer Wins NBA 2's
    Gateway College 2's
    Mike Lee NBA 8's
Mike Neri All plays in college and NBA
    Mike Rose NBA 3's
New York Wise Guys All 50 star plays in College and NBA
    NSA all college plays
    OCD college 5's NBA 3's
    PPP all NBA
    Southcoast college 3's
Special K all plays in college and NBA
The Sportsmen college 10's and all plays in NBA
Texas Sportswire college 3's and 4's
Underdog all plays in college and NBA
    Underdog Hotline all NBA plays
    VSS college 6 1/2% and NBA 6 to 6 1/2%

most of those services will be under 50% by the end of the year. you will not win betting those service's games. spec-k is the only one that had a wining record the lost two years that i know of.

        I agree mbates.

However, I would also follow JB with his NBA.

I think that he is the top NBA handicapper and Billy Coleman has been VERY good this year so far.
Am I the longest tenured BC member?

bates, nice post. Hope you don't mind if I offer my thoughts as I have been tracking, riding and/or fading these services for close to 20 years now......

            * I am not big on The Animal simply because as Spark always says, Mark (The Real Animal) is notorious for giving out bad picks to cross up thread posters and/or consensus sites. While his results may be good at times, the picks are generally rendered worthless unless you are paying for them direct because you NEVER KNOW IF WHAT YOU ARE READING ARE THE TRUE PICKS. I just assume stay away from The Animal all-together.....

            * I think ATS is not a very good service overall. While I would not grade them as a "fade", I certainly would be hesitant to follow their picks on any consistent basis......

            * California Sports has been hot, but they also started hot in football and now stand at something like 30 games under .500 overall. I do not have an opinion on them longterm but I just wanted to give a heads up to all of those who are planning to hop on them because of their nice record. They have done this before, and crashed and burned bigtime, so just a heads up there......

            * I respectfully disagree with you on OCD and Mike Rose. I view both of them as two of the better fade's on the net. Just my personal opinion though......

            * New York Wiseguys and Private Players are two that I would say to just look at EVERYTHING they give out (not just the NY Wiseguys 50*'s or PPP NBA). These two services win in all sports, so I would always want to know who they have in all sports.....

            * My take on VSS Wins is to always know who their 6-6.5%'s are, and when they are hot (like now in hoops), I ride everything they put out. If you look at their records on the consensus charts that are out there, they are better than mostly every service listed. I usually lay off their regular 5*'s (and just use them to either confirm who I like or to never go against them etc) - unless they are hot (then I ride them), but their 6-6.5%'s are a must have for me......

            * I also target JB Sports NBA. I could care less who JB has in any other sport, but he has won year after year in pro baskets, and I value his picks as much as any other nba service out there......

Below is the core list that I have been going with, and it has worked out quite well! Private Players, Alatex Super Play, JB Sports (NBA Only), The New York Wiseguys, Executive (anything 400%+ gets my attention), The Underdog (has been very solid), VSS Wins (described above) and Special K (I follow his NBA totals but when he is hot anything that he gives out gets my attention).

I feel that my core list is a nice mix because it contains services that specialize in a low number of games (like The Underdog, Alatex, JB Sports, The New York Wiseguys and Executive), yet has a couple of services that use alot of games (like PPP and VSS) so that I can target a big game or two when I need it, as well as have broader opinions to evaluate the whole board each night when I look at the games.

Best of luck to you and to everyone else who takes the analysis of these service plays as seriously as I do!

OldBlueEyes-Your response was exactly the type I was looking for in a thread in sports service I started several days ago entitled Rate the Cappers. Virtually no one answered it.
I rated several including OCD, and what I said is that he is a nice guy(I have chatted with him on oine) and very enthusiastic about his work.
While he hits a good number of big plays, I have noted over the many years I have followed him that whenever his OVERALL record over time is posted, it usually border on mediocre at best.
It is tough for me to say above because he is a good guy, but that is how I see it.

OBER-check in sports service section-it is still there;what you said here is VERY good, and in any case there is no need now for anyone else to respond, as you covered many of the cappers.
ps It is on page 2 now.
