Portland St -1.5


-This team is the Class of the Big Sky Conf....They return 4 starters who have been lighting it up shooting an overall average of 51.2% from the field as a team...Solid!...Portland St is also 5-2 as a Fav this year...whereas Weber St is 2-5 as a Dog on the year....Portand St also 4-0 in the Conf...Weber St 1-4 in the conf...Vikings also on a solid 8-0 run, while Weber is 1-7 their last 8 games...This one is strictly two teams who are headed in opposite directions...and with this trend, I am going with the best in the Conf....Portand St is the best shooting % team in the Conf (51.2%) and also rank #2 in scoring offense (73.4 ppg) and #1 in scoring defense(66.3 ppg) in the conf.....Weber St is ranked at the bottom of the major shooting categories ie, 3 pt FG%(last 28%) and also FG% (2nd to last at .41%) ...They also are ranked last in 3pt FG% defense (.38%) and also FG% defense (2nd to last allowing .47%)....The only category which they are on top is FT% (.70%)...but that is due to them attempting the 2nd fewest FT's in the Conf...Weber also ranks last in 3 pt shots made a game with only 4.8 ppg....Portland plays solid defense averaging twice as many steals per game then Weber with 8 (rank 3rd)....Portland also #1 in Assist per game averaging 16.5...Weber St ranked 2nd to last in assist category with only 12 per game....

Bottom line, here...is Weber St has probably the best player in the league in Mr Everything 6-11 Allred (2nd in conf in scoring avg 17.5 ppg...and 1st in conf in reb), but beside him, the remaining supporting cast for Weber is possibly the worst in the league.....The Viking's, on the other hand, do have a solid supporting cast to their Big Guy Sr F Boxley who leads the conf in scoring with 18.9 ppg and is 2nd in rebs per game...Sr G-F Walker is also ranked 5th in the conf in scoring with 13.5 ppg avg and also Jr G Schroeder provides more scoring balance with his 10.5 ppg average which ranks 17th in the conf....Schroeder also is 2nd in the conf with (40) 3 pointers made on the year as well....and Sr G Funn provides solid defense ranking 2nd in the league in steals with 41 on the year...and also leads the conf in assist per a game with 7.38...

All in all, this Viking's team returns 4 starting Sr's and 1 Jr from last years team that finished in last place in the conf...to sit atop the conf alone this year at 4-0, while also being the only team in the Big Sky Conf to post a DD (12) win record, with only 4 losses, so far on the year...The next closest to their win total is 9-8 N Ariz, who sits 4 spots down, at 2-2 in conf play....3 of 4 Portland St's losses came on the road at Gonzaga, at Boise St, and at Ohio St, which should be expected...Other than that, and since that last lost to the Buckeyes, the Vikings has simply been on a major tear through the conf, rolling over everyone, and is now riding an 8 game winning streak coming into this one....Tonight, I simply see nothing to make me feel that Weber will be able to stop this solid mature, experienced, well balanced Viking squad from getting their 9th straight win tonight...Portland St simply rolls to victory once more...Lay the small number with the Vikes....GL and Aloha CC.

UMASS -2

-Both teams have won 3 of their last 4, but Umass has more impressive wins between them....They beat a solid Xavier team at home, putting up 90 on them....Umass then went into then 22nd ranked GW, as a 16.5 pt dog and came out w/ a Big Upset win....They then returned home and took out Fordham by 13pts....After a big upset win over GW, most could of expected them to suffer a letdown vs a sad Fordham team...but, that was not the case...and for me this says a lot about a team...One of them, is that they are playing with a lot of focus...and another is that they are simply clicking, that not even a hangover can stop them from rolling...

Still, even if they were suffering from a slight hangover after that big win....I expect that they will be completely focused on this Hawks team who have already handed them a 7pt loss 10 days ago at St Joe's....This is a perfect situation for the Minutemen to get their REVENGE from the Hawks, and they also catch them on their second straight road game, as well as, coming in off a loss....Hmmm, perfect.

This year, Umass returns 5 starters from last years team and they also have a very deep bench, compared to St Joe's only returning 2 starters from last years awesome 20+ win team....St Joe's Jones returns and does lead the league in rebs per game with 10.8, but besides that he really has no support on the boards....Umass's F Freeman is 4th in the conf with 8 rebounds per game, but the difference is, he has a bevy of help by 5 other Minutemen players on the board...Umass a better team in scoring offense, and a better team in defending the arc (.33%), someplace St Joe's is known to go to due to lack of scoring production down low..

Umass does have some quality wins at home this year vs Uconn's Big Men (Boone, Villanueva, and Gay) and also Xavier's talented Forwards (Thorton, Doellman, and Cage)...so I dont feel that they will struggle much vs St Joe's Top rebounder in Jones, especially since his production on the offensive end is lacking compared to Umass's Freeman...Plus, Umass's G and court Genral Anderson should be able to help keep a balanced attack with his 43% 3pt shooting average....St Joe's was able to pick up only 3 wins on the road this year against weak opponents and lost 6 to solid opponents....They are also 0-4 ATS their last 4 games as a Road Dog of 3 pts or less and Umass is 3-1 ATS as a Fav this year....Today, the Minutemen get their REVENGE and get back into the race for the A-10 Title.

WAKE FOREST E (74-70 WINNER)


-WF coming off of their 1st lost in 10 games and this definately should not be sitting to good with them especially after getting their biggest win of the year over North Carolina...But, these things happen and good teams know how to respond back after a setback...and this WF team is definately one of the best at doing just that, along with being still being one of the elite teams in the land this year....Cincy is a tough team who plays with a thug mentality, but they are not in the class of WF and they do not play in a conf with the talent of the ACC...

When I first saw this matchup, 3 things really came to mind regarding these two...One, was WF's ability to remain focused and continue to play like a team with a Championship mentality, even when they were down by 19 pts on the road at Florida St...Their ability to come back and almost pull off the outright win before OT was very impressive indeed....The second thing was Cincy's inability to hold on to their 17 pt lead vs Louisville, a game which Louisville shot a season low 37.5% from the field....and the 3rd, was Free Throw shooting in big games...

In WF's big game vs NC free throws was a huge reason for their winning that game as they was 32 for 32 from the line...In fact, WF in their last two games set an NCAA record with 50 straight FT's made...Unreal.....But, in Cincy's big game vs Louisville, free throws was one of the main reasons for them failing to win that game as they went 17 of 30 from the line, and more importantly went 1 for 4 down the stretch when they had the chance to secure a lead for the win....Major Problem for Cincy, is the fact that their two big men in F Maxwell and Hicks, who also are their top scorers as well, both lead the team also in FT attempts per a game and both are only 60% FT shooters...Maxwell avereges 63.6% from the line and Hicks only averages 60.6% from the line....Vs Louisville, Maxwell went 7-of-13 from the line and Hicks went 4-of-9 from the line...a combined 11-of-23 for 48%....This is definately a weakness for Cincy in big games vs big time opponents like WF is, where every point will be needed to keep up with this scoring machine....This weakness of Cincy's, especially their big men at the line, I feel will come back to hurt them in this one....However, there are other reasons as well why I feel WF will be able to put Cincy back into the loss column today...

Cincy although playing good defense and solid on offense, they are not a good rebounding team....In their game vs Louisville they were outrebounded by 11 rebs, only grabbing 26 rebs...Today they face a WF team who is one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 14th in the land in Rebounding Margin...Wake averages 41.6 rpg, 8 more than their opponents....WF also ranks 41st in the nation in Assist with 16.5 apg average, led by G Paul's(ranked 11th) 6.5 apg average.....WF is ranked 22nd in the nation in FG% as a team hitting 49.4% of their shots from the field....They are also 4th in Scoring Offense with a 85.6 ppg average and 16th in 3 pt% shooting at 41%, led by Jr G Gray's (ranked 11th) 3.3 per a game at an average of 45.3%.....WF also is ranked 4th in the nation in Steals per game with 9.3....This WF team is very impressive statistically and what should be noted as well, is they did this while playing one of the nations toughest schedules....

Bottom line, WF is to good and to balanced for Cincy to matchup with....but their biggest advantage will be in their Backcourt with All American Soph Paul and Jr Gray....How is Cincy going to handle these two solid ass guards when they couldnt even prevent Louisville's G Dean from being the leading scorer for the Cards with 25 pts, as well as, grabbing 7 rebs and hitting seven 3 pt shots?....This duo of WF not only leads the team in scoring a combined average of 32.7 ppg, but they also lead the team in assist with 9 per game..and both also combine to grab 7 rpg...Also, Gray shoots 41.9% from 3 pt land, while Paul has a 57.1% average from downtown....Oh, and they also visit the charity line a lot, where Gray shoots 73.8% from the line and Paul is almost dead on accurate with his 86.1% average...Oh Boy!.

Some other info on WF:

-WF returns all 5 starters from last year...and plays with a much deeper bench then does Cincy.
-WF is 15-0 when holding opponents to below 50% shooting from the field.
-WF is 13-0 when they have more rebounds then their opponents.
-WF has gone 4-1 vs Nationally ranked teams this year...beating #18 Arizona, #14 Texas, #25 Virginia, #3 NC, and not to mention they beat GW and Maryland both who was ranked at one time this year...Their only loss was to #5 ranked Illinois, who has the best backcourt in the country...something Cincy doesnt have.

-The only two teams to beat WF this year (ILL and FL ST) shot 50% or better, scored 91 pts, and drained DD 3 pt shots....Can Cincy do all of this?.....I say NOPE!...

Cincy wont be able to intimidate this experienced WF team, something they effectively seem to do to other programs...And I dont feel WF will be affected by playing in the Bearcats House either, as they play in the ACC, the home of the toughest venues in the land....This WF team has to much of a balanced attack both inside and out, as well as has more guns on the bench that is able to step in and not skip a beat....Cincy doesnt match up talent wise and they lack enough big play makers against what WF has....WF also currently 5-2 ATS vs good offensive teams who score 77+ per game...Cincy is just 1-2 ATS this year vs good offensive teams who score 77+ points per game....and they are also just 7-18 ATS their last 25 games vs teams with a winning record after 15 or more games....Take the #3 team in the land WF as the best Top Play of the Day...
