The Los Angeles Lakers take aim at a season-high third consecutive victory tonight, when they begin a two-night, two-game road trip against the San Antonio Spurs at the SBC Center.
Los Angeles has won three of its last four contests, including a 99-91 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday evening at the Staples Center. Kobe Bryant scored 31 of his 42 points in the second half to pace the Lakers to the victory.
Bryant finished 14-of-29 from the floor and 12-of-16 from the foul line. He has erupted for 132 points in his last three games, as he scored 42 against Miami on Christmas Day and 48 versus Toronto on December 28.
Bryant, who is 41-of-47 from the line in his last three games, scoring at least 40 points in each, is averaging 34.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists in his last five games. He has also scored in double-digits in all 28 of the Lakers' games this season.
Caron Butler netted 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Los Angeles, which has won two in a row and three of its last four contests. Lamar Odom contributed 12 points and 15 boards and Chris Mihm ended with 10 points and eight rebounds in the win.
The Lakers, who have won two of their last three on the road, are 5-6 in foreign buildings this season.
San Antonio had a five-game win streak halted with an 86-81 loss to Sacramento on Sunday. Manu Ginobili paced the Spurs in Sunday's loss with 18 points, while All-Star Tim Duncan had 14 points and 11 rebounds but missed 10 of his 16 shots.
Ginobili has scored in double-digits in eight of his last nine games. He is averaging 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 31 contests this season.
The Spurs hit 38.6 percent from the field in the game, including 4-of-18 (.222) from the three-point line. San Antonio managed to hit just 9-of-18 (.500) from the charity stripe.
The Spurs fell to 11-6 on the road this season. San Antonio finished 2-1 on a three-game road trip. Meanwhile, the Spurs, which begin a three-game homestand tonight, are 14-1 in the friendly confines of the SBC Center.
San Antonio posted a 105-96 victory over the Lakers on November 5 at the Staples Center. The Spurs have won two straight, six of nine and seven of the last 11 meetings overall.
